Why The Sport Should Not Be Coed
Sport teams should not be coed because coed sports cause discomfort on teams and more injures depending on the size and structure of the opposite gender. The first reason why sports shouldn’t be coed is because it causes discomfort among both genders. “Boys and girls might be more comfortable playing sports with the same sex. Boys might fear being too aggressive with girls on the playing field. From a social perspective, they might fear failing in front of girls who they like socially. Girls, on the other hand, might be more timid when playing with boys, which might inhibit their athletic skills. They might feel more supported by an all-girls team than a coed one” (Barbie Carpenter, p. 1). According to Debate.org, “To have men-only and women-only …show more content…
The problem with contact sports being coed is that men have essentially been conditioned to not hit women. We believe it is wrong to do so and that much is true. The point is, men just don't feel comfortable having women in THEIR leagues (for that reason). For example, we have a girl on our hockey team. Due to the lack of high school women's teams, girls have to play with us. Whenever she gets the puck in a game, none of the guys on the other teams want to touch her, they just wait for her to mess up and then take it from her. In a women's only game, a woman would be able to enjoy all aspects of the game, without men letting her win, or trying to avoid her. When they invade men's teams, they just take away the intensity of the sport” (Debate.org, pg. 1). Given these points, women and men have hard times playing sports with each other. Men don’t want to hurt women, and women don’t want to be the weak link. Both genders want to be able to enjoy all aspect of the game, but are unable to in coed sports due to discomft. These contradiction cause sports to be a let down for both genders. It was also proven the men's games are faster than women's, which causes coed sport to be slowed

According to Caitlin Granfield of youthletic, “Before puberty, boys and girls who play sports together can learn many things about each other and about themselves.” For example, when the kids go through puberty and get older, they will be getting to big to play sports together. First of all, by being able to compete in a sport not typically offered for females, allows a girl to showcase her talent for said sport. Sometimes, girls are not able to perform at their highest potential when they are participating in a sport they do not have the talent or motivation to play. However, if said girl has the talent and liking for a sport majorly for boys, and she is given the opportunity to play on a male team, she will be able to truly throw herself into the sport and showcase her talent. Some may argue that although the girl would be happy playing on a boys’ team, the boys may not be as comfortable competing with a girl. However, by being less comfortable, the boys are benefiting as well by a girl on the team. A girl can force the boys to become more comfortable with the opposite gender aiding in social skills.…

There are many aspects why female and male athletes should not compete together. Although one reason may be because of physiological differences, societal barriers also prevent female athletes from competing with males. What it means to be male or female is one of the hardest things to decipher. This is one of the more bigger struggles between masculinity and femininity. One institution that specifically targets this idea of gender differences is professional sports. Women are challenged because of these gender differences to be accepted into a male dominated institution. Female athletes are encouraged and in many cases forced to under appreciate themselves by the media because of sports. Our society tends to under appreciate women who play…

    Gender In Sports

However the popularity of woman's in “men's” sports has risen, and in the majority of our society many girls are pushed to join sports, as much as boys are, such as soccer or basketball, and are placed into leagues where they gain experience for when/if they decide to join their school leagues. As time progresses, I do believe that sports will be seen as vital socialization for men and women, if not in the generation of my generations, children, then in their children. Those of my generation where sports have been a big part of their life, will wish to share that with their children. The joys of being on a team, learning how to cooperate and work with others, no matter how different is vital to human beings regardless of gender. The norm of sports being for 'men' seems to be shifting as more professional athletes are coming out with their sexual orientation. Gay men are often ridiculed and regarded as weak, or 'not real men' the players coming out or demonstrating, “I'm gay, yet I had a successful athletic career in spite of/regardless of my…

    The Same Team

The debate that girls and boys should be playing on the same team has gone on for quite a while. Boys think girls cant do most of their physical activities. On the other side girls think boys cant do most of their physical activities. This debate has gone on for such a long time, now it is just silly. Each side has their own opinions, but they can never agree with each other. I think girls and boys should be able to play on the same team, but we should give them that decision if they want to or not. What I am trying to say is that we should let them decide if they want to play on the same team with boys and girls. It's not us to decide if they want to or not. Their are many girls that are better then boys in physical sports such as baseball or basketball or even football. People, think the reason the guys don't want the girls on their team or the girls don't want the guys on their team is because they think one is better then the other. Yet the other person doesn't want them to prove it. Some people are given talents to do great things in sports but some people just wont allow them to show it. This is where the Olympics come in. In the Olympics men and women play on the same team and do the same sports with each other. I think the people that actually play the sports should decide if they want to play on the same team or not.…

The department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights actually told schools to not include cheerleading as a sport because the sport of cheer is gender biased. Perhaps this would be so, but many cheerleading teams all across the nation allow various opportunities for males to partake in the sport of cheerleading in which they are treated equally. For example, in the United Kingdom males and females wear the same cheerleading uniform (UKCA) which is a prime example of how males and females are treated equally.…
