The Mexican American War Was concluded with the death of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The United States was give disputed Texan Territory, as well as New Mexico territory and California. The Mexican Government was paid $15 million, the same went to France for the Louisianan Territory. The United States won the war even though they have lost about 13,000 Americans in the war, half of Mexico Territory was stripped form them and was not consoled by the monetary settlement (The Mexican-American War, N/A). The Mexican war began on 18646 because of several battles over a period of three months and some of these are American fort on the Rio Grande with the intent to establish the international boundary between Mexico and the United States. Texas was add to the United States in the year 1846 and was declared as the 28th state to the Union. IN the year 1847 the last fort of the Mexican in California surrender to the U.S. forces and The U.S. won in the battle of Vera Cruz and then they enter Mexico City. Zachary Taylor Emerged as a hero and was succeed full to make Polk the president of the United States in 1849 (Mexican-American War, N/A). Mexican Attacked a group of U.S. soldiers under the command of General Zachary Taylor. And killed about a dozen soldiers. There were only about 75,000 Mexican citizens that lived in Rio Grande and as a result U.S. forces led by Col. Stephen W. Kearny and commodore Robert F. Stockton were able to take over those lands with minimal resistance. With all the losing Mexico was taking they had to turn to old standby general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and the charismatic strongman that were both living in exile in Cuba and as a result Santa Anna Convinced Polk that if he was allowed back into Mexico that he will need to end this war and in favor to the United States and then Santa Anna double crossed Polk by taking control of the Mexican army and he led them into battle. In the battle of Buena Vista in February 1847 something bad happen to Santa Anna army they suffered a lot of casualties and was forced to withdraw and then this led to taking over Veracruz led by Gen.
