The civil war was not a fun battle. Many people died during that war. During the 1800’s the southern portion of the United States broke off and became its own separate country. They became the Confederate states of America or the Confederacy. The U.S. and the C.S. were very different countries. The C.S. heavily practiced slavery while slavery was banned in the U.S. The U.S. was more industry based while the C.S. was based on agriculture. The U.S. wanted the C.S. to rejoin with it. He committed himself to the war more. Granted also fought in the Mexican war which gave him an idea of what to expect on the battlefield. Grant was also seen by many as a skilled fighter which went well with his personality. His West Point roommate, Frederick Dent almost died and Grant saved his life. This gave Grant some war experience.
The north won the civil war which obviously points to Grant being more experienced than Lee. Even though he made a lot of mistakes in his life. If it were not for Lee America would probably still remain two different
