Boys are classified as the only ones to play football or basketball and now you see girls out there playing these sports. Tieu proves that even though boys might have all of these traits doesn’t mean a girl could be better than them in a video game because it does not require to have those characteristics. Unlike sports, violent video games only require to have quick reaction time and manual dexterity. By having a quick reaction time and manual dexterity is makes girls successful at beating boys in video games. I remember playing Black Ops and the boys hearing me talk on the microphone, saying “oh you’re not going to be that good because you’re a girl, you are going to get smoked.” Once I got good at working the controller, I was killing players left and right which showed the boys wrong that as me not being a boy, I could play just as good as they

If there was an experiment created where a person was placed in front of a television screen, given a controller and allowed to play a violent first person shooter for an hour, would one feel the urge to shoot a school up? The question is do violent video games lead to violent behaviors? The research shows that violent video games cause heightened aggression, but not a more violent behavior. What trying to argue is that violent video games do not lead to violent behaviors. But on the other hand people think that just because one plays a violent video game, must make them a bad person. Violent video games do not connect to violent behavior because there is no single factor that leads a person to be violent or aggressive, just because…

Video games have been rising in popularity and today has become a very profitable industry, beginning with the 1980s, from arcade classics like Asteroids, pinball, and Pac-Man to the postmodern console and computer gaming. (Sherman 243) With the rise of video games came the perpetuation of a gender disparity as a result of the emerged gaming culture and from the video games themselves. (Sherman 245) This gender disparity is evident from looking at the female gamers, who often experience sexism from male gamers and apparent in the production of video game characters and how female characters can be subjected to over-sexualization and objectification by the developers. Video games have often been considered something “men/boys do” and it is…

Also, women would see other women as a background character to men and will learn to be more submissive. Elizabeth Behm-Morawitz and Dana Mastro studied the effects that sexualized female video game characters have on “female self-concept” (808-823). According to them, “playing a sexualized female video game character negatively affected feelings of self-efficacy in women, compared to playing no video game character” (Behm-Morawitz and Mastro). Playing video games made girls think less of themselves in respects to their confidence on their abilities to succeed in certain situations. Kids are being brought up in a world that hates women and things need to…

Video games have always been a great landmark in the history of the human race and how great and advanced they’ve become since their creation. Video games also have their own timeline and certain points in time in which major controversy has arisen. Newscasters have made full reports on how video games are the major contributor to thoughts and actions of violence in the minds of all who have purchased them, either being adults and all the way down to children of all ages. Even though newscasters and reporters may be seen as respected and credible sources this topic has always pinned video games as the culprit but they were never the ones to blame.…

Controversial subjects comes in all forms and fashions and sometimes presents disagreements within. The controversial subject that I have chosen has been around for many years and have allowed individuals to take a stand for their opinions about the situation. “The debates on video games violence has arguably been narrow, in that it assumes that such games have only negative effects and ignores the possibility of positive effects”. (Ferguson, C.J, 2007) Within the Article it provides stability and creditability in the problem of violence in video games. The Article is called Negative Potential of Video Games by Russell Sabella, but instead of focusing on the facts of how and why this is an issue it provides facts the boys demonstrate these acts far more and singling this gender out within the article. With the validity of this important information that needs to motivate our youth this article depicts that boys will see and demonstrate more violent acts. Understanding that the main focus should be the youth, only boys were singles out and this article also assumed that boys show a greater tendencies to be aggressive due to the motivation of video games “This is especially true for boys who seem to show greater tendencies to be aggressive and to seek out higher media violence exposure”. (Russell A. Sabella Ph.D., 2013) Video games contributing to youth violence and have demonstrated negative actions which caused support groups to stop the creation, sales, or renting to individuals under the age of 18 due to negative acts of harm represented by the youth. The influence that the video games present to the youth consist of aggressive behavior, violence, school shootings and even bullying. “Recent highly publicized school shootings; reports of gang; young people obsessed with violent video games, movies, and song lyrics; and media prone to…

Does playing a video game make you prone to commit real-life violence? This question has been an issue since the very early 90's when violent games like Doom and Wolfenstein were released, but only in the last half a decade or so (mainly since the incident at Columbine, Colorado, 1999 – when it was revealed that the teenage shooters were avid video game players) has it really come to the majority's attention. The key issue that both sides can't agree on is whether people should be allowed to play violent games or not. I think both sides agree that extremely violent video games should not be played by young children, who have a harder time separating reality from fiction; also, the media does indeed only report one side of the argument. There have been numerous studies claiming both that violent games correlate to real-life violence, and that there is little or no such correlation. The problem is that there is no concrete evidence of a causal conclusion between video game violence and real-life violence. If there was such a conclusion, both sides would likely be able to come to an understanding, but as it stands now, they are in a stalemate.…

Video games are basically known as a staple among American teenagers. Many teenage boys and even some girls spend hours of their day staring at the TV screen and rapidly pushing buttons on a controller. Many of the top selling games in America strongly involve violence in their gameplay. These types of games raise many questions about how they affect the people playing the games. Are there negative consequences or are these claims just made up? There is research to back up both claims but the negative effects of violent video games seem to overpower the positives of recreational violent video game play. Manufacturers should enforce their own policy towards people who play their games in a more efficient way. Video games have multiple severe problems associated with the violence that is so heavily incorporated into them. Video games can give a false sense of reality and allow gamers to become so immersed into their game play that lines between real life situations and game play situations begin to blend together. Playing video games can also become an addictive distraction. Many avid gamers can spend hours at a time glued to their TVs playing on their Xboxes, PS3s, and other gaming consoles. This time spent playing games can take away from other activities. Important things like schoolwork and grades can be affected by spending all one’s time playing games instead of focusing on more important things. It can cause people that play the games to go to sleep super late in the night. The students then have to wake up early and go to school tired and will not be able to focus and stay awake to learn the material being taught. Video games also spur a sedimentary lifestyle. Obviously, not getting enough daily exercise leads to weight gain and other health issues. Violent video games also cause behavioral and social problems. These games desensitize people towards killing and steer them in the direction that killing is…

In today’s ultra-violent media world, approximately 68% of Americans play video games. With one of the most popular video games of 2012 being Call of Duty, it can be argued that it is more than a coincidence that the level of violence in society today has risen at a similar rate to the popularity of these types of video games. Statistics like this may not be proven but cannot be ignored in any studies conducted in behaviour traits, however, the connection between aggression in modern society and the increasing popularity of video games must be deemed more than a coincidence.…

Video games with violent themes are a very large part of the American culture. Children and young adults spend an enormous amount of time playing video games in today’s world. It is a popular belief that video games cause violent behavior in children and young adults. There have been hundreds of studies to either prove or disprove the idea that violent video games cause violent action in real life. In my opinion, the link between violent games and the behavior problems seen in some of today’s youth is just not there. Many of the studies are inconclusive. The studies I have found that are not inconclusive, I find to have unanswered questions and missing variables.…

For the last two Decades researchers have investigated whether or not video games cause violent behavior. During this period of time there have been multiple violent events in the world and people make the assumption that the violent behavior is caused by video games. To my experience I would have to agree with this statement and say that video games do cause violent behavior because I have encountered someone's behavior, I have seen the development of how realistic the games look like, and I have personally felt the sensation of playing the games myself.…
