There where a lot of reasons on why there was an American Revolution. In fact, there are so many reasons why there was that we can't list them all, only a few of the key and most important ones. During my writing, I will be talking about a couple of the different acts and groups and what they imposed and intended to do, and what effects they had on the colonist and how they all lead up to a revolution.
Stamp Act:
The Stamp Tax was a tax that aimed for every document or newspaper printed or used in the colonies. The taxes ranged from one shilling a newspaper to ten pounds for a lawyers’ license, everything a colonist wanted to have was taxed. The money earned from it was to be used to pay the cost of Britains Army defending the colonies.The colonist resisted to the fact that the taxes would be prosecuted by courts and not by jury trials, and responded with anger. This hatred also took the form of demonstrations, and other acts of violence. The violent actions were not without a cause. The actions were coordinated and put into place by a new organization called "The Sons of Liberty". The Sons of Liberty were founded in the summer of 1765 by a group of shopkeepers in Boston. The founders of the group were not the best of Bostons’ citizens. However, the group included Benjamin Edes, who was a printer and John Gil who ran the Boston Newspaper. Which assured they were able to spread their message around the colonies. The first action the Sons of Liberty did took place on August 14, 1765. The Sons burned an effigy of Andrew Oliver who was slated to become the Commissioner of the Stamps for Massachusetts. That night, a group of angry people burned part of Olivers property in Boston and ransacked an abandoned house belonging to Oliver.
