Why We Need The Draft Back Back to the age of wars, when United States had to fight the wars such as World War 2 or Vietnam War, they had to draft the men and women from their nation to support their military in the wars. Some people supported this idea but most of the country went against it because they didn’t want their country fought the wars anymore. They wanted peace! That was a reason why Richard Nixon, the President of the United States at that time, proposed the message to end the military draft. This move satisfied the country, but not Noel Koch. Koch, a speech writer of the President Richard Nixon, thought that the military draft is very important for the country. That’s why he wrote a letter “Why We Need The Draft Back” to show and to explain for the readers why the draft is so important like that.
In paragraph two, Koch attempts to persuade the audience by first offering the most obvious reason why we the need the draft. He writes that we need the draft because, without it, we will not have the enough men and women in the military to defend our nation. Koch knows that to convince his readers, he will first need to show them that he understands the most commonsense reason why we need the draft back. If the author cannot prove to his audience that he knows the most self-evident reason for forcing people into the armed forces, then he will have little luck persuading readers that his other reasons are convincing. That is why Koch focuses on the draft's "math." He wants to show that -- for all his other beliefs about why we need the draft -- he understands that, at root, it's a numbers game. Without soldiers, you have no army. And a country without an army cannot defend itself.
In paragraph four, Koch tries to persuade the audiences by letting them know to understand that the draft doesn’t only help the country to defend itself but also solve the social problems which, without the draft, are the difficult works to do. He writes
