in the United States this year." In Iowa, teens are a big portion of profits in a tanning business.
Right now Iowa has already placed a 10% tax increase on tanning. So banning the teens from tanning will hurt their business because they will lose their main customers. This may not be right for business, but it may be saving your skin. According to the skin Cancer Foundation "In 1994, a Swedish study found that women 18-30 years old who visited tanning parlors ten times or more a year had seven times greater incidence of melanoma than women who did not use tanning salons." Tanning is harmful to your skin and anybody who tans will tell you they know that. Just like cigarettes, tanning is addicting and can cause cancer. Teens ages fourteen to seventeen are tanning frequently. Law makers should ban young teens from tanning until their 18, Just like the law of cigarettes. That way the risk of getting skin cancer would go down by a few years. At least from indoor tanning. Outdoor tanning still poses a threat. We can't control the teens in Iowa from tanning outside in the summer for three to four months. But we can control the eight to nine months of winter. They might thank Iowa when they're thirty and have no skin cancer, sun spots,or gross wrinkles. Nobody wants
those. For the teens in Iowa there are other alternatives for tanning. Spray tans are amazing and they give you a beautiful healthy glow and a great tan. The cost of spray tans are about the same as a normal tan. Spray tans also don't cause any skin damage.Tanning salons really need to encourage spray tans to the young teens. Not only will they be preventing the teens from getting skin damage. But promoting it more could make up the cost of them not tanning until they are eighteen. Personally I enjoy tanning I love how it looks on me. But I didn't start tanning till I was eighteen. I have already noticed some skin problems on my skin, and I have been tanning for only two years. My tanning salon told me that when you tan you can have bacteria on your skin, and it won't tan. So you will get small white spots on your skin. They mostly appear on your chest, face, and arms. The small white spots are strange and not appealing on my nice tan skin. As a fellow tanner I can say the wait is well worth it. I can only imagine what my skin might look like after six years of tanning if I started at fourteen, gross thought.
