Why We Should Not Have School Dress Codes
Diversity is a variety, a range of different things. School dress code is restricting our freedom of expressing ourselves. Many believe there should not be a school dress code ,but there should be an extent on clothing beamed as inappropriate.
In some cases, there is still worry of indecency in which there should be an extent on clothing rules. There are rules to enforce it as this website states, “Most states have laws that allow school boards to make dress code rules for students to promote a safe disciplined school environment, prevent interference with school work, and discipline to encourage uniformity of student dress.” (education.findlaw.come/student-rights/school-dress-codes.html). Clothes are not a distraction. The author implies “Opponents noted a number of studies that found no academic impact from uniforms or dress codes,” (Andrew 5). Sitting in the classroom with your choice of clothing on will not disturb others. There is no influence on your studies based on surrounding clothing.
Clothing is a freedom of expression. Clothes show a significant amount about a person and their style. Why take that away? The author states “Clothing as a primary means for expressing ideas for students is as primitive as clothing itself…” (education.findlaw.com/student-rights/school-dress-codes.html). Kids are told every day to be their own individual yet dress code is taking this away. Dr. Seuss once wrote “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” Everyone is their own unique and beautiful self and dress code is restricting the ability to showcase these traits. Some believe dress code should be mandatory for expense purposes. Poverty is a real problem today that many families have to face. Walmsley recalls “I know I spent less money and needed far fewer items of clothing for my children when they wore school uniforms.” (Walmsley 66).
