Why Writing Is Important To Me
Reading and writing are very important because you will have to use them in the world. Schools teach you about reading and writing at a young age. The reason reading is important is because you will have to basically read everything you see. Writing is important because you will have to write for a job. My reading and writing have changed from liking to read and not liking to read because of things I experienced with reading, but my writing experience has always been nice for me because of all the practice I have had with writing, but I do have a few bad experiences with writing. When I was younger I used to love to read. My mom is a big reader in our family. I started to not like reading when I got older because I felt like reading was not for me. Another reason I don’t like read is because I never understood what I was reading. Now I read when I feel like reading. Ever since I got older my reading has changed from a love to hate relationship. I don't have much to say about writing for myself. Writing doesn't mean much to me. I am not a writer. I am an orator. However, writing does mean something to my wife. I love my wife. She loves to write. She spends hours a day writing. I watch words flow from her fingertips as she writes page after page. She doesn't let me read much of what she writes, but when she does, I can see the passion and the joy that she has for what she writes about. I wish that I could write with such a fire.…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

Reading: somewhere, somehow it is all around us. Everyone learned to read through different methods and sources. As I grew up, education was not a question. I was taught to focus on school and everything else would fall into place. I knew that I would attend college and be given the opportunity to have a great education. However, other people are less fortunate than I have been. Minorities and people living in poverty cannot afford to read books and expand their knowledge. This hurts them as they age and causes them to fall behind in school. Literacy is very important to our culture, as it affects how our country is ran and decisions that are made in state and national offices.…

I used to love reading when there wasn't a lot of pressure or strict deadlines involved. I also liked being able to choose what I read, whenever I wanted to read it. Early on in elementary school I was free to choose whatever I pleased, and that caused me to become interested in some series of books. Soon enough the relaxing fun turned into stressful reading with deadlines, which turned my attitude about reading upside down. I tend to have a negative attitude towards old literature that is difficult to read because it feels like it turns reading into a mind taxing challenge. I prefer to be able to comprehend something the first time I read it, and for the text to be in the normal language that is used in our modern times. That being said, I have a positive attitude about reading things that I am interested in knowing more about. For example, I thoroughly enjoy reading articles about college, engineering, or technology. Anytime I receive some kind of college pamphlet in the mail or come across an interesting article about some upcoming device, I will almost immediately stop everything to read about it. I also appreciate action-packed novels set in post-apocalyptic scenarios where characters must overcome some form of supreme control such as The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner. In my opinion, anything that I enjoy learning about or that is exciting to me is worth…

I believe that writing can be a great tool for everyone in order to express themselves freely. Not everyone is a writer; some people have to work at putting their thoughts and words together, before putting them to paper. We are all unique in how we express ourselves; some are just more creative than others. How do we as individuals, get to that point to be able to expand or elaborate further on paper our thoughts? When we have finally gathered our thoughts and start to lay the words down on paper, how do we then decide how to organize them to be able to present them to our audience? In order to start the writing process we have to come up with a topic that we believe would interest others. We then need to do thorough research to have all of our facts and supporting documentation. This would also include making sure that we cite our sources. We never want to plagiarize; using any other persons work without giving them full credit is unethical and dishonest. With that being said, how do we learn to cite our sources properly? How do we determine if the source is accurate? This is all part of learning the writing process. Once we have learned the process, I believe we can all become a great writer if we so choose to be.…

It was the middle of the school year, and I had just moved into Duluth. I was begging my mother to put me back into public school. At the time I was being home-schooled but I hated it. So one day, my mom told me "since you want to go to public school so bad, I'll let you go soon." I was happy! I could finally make some new friends and go somewhere I wanted to go. Few days later, we went into the school I will be attending called Northview High School. We went to go get interviewed, but the lady that interviewed us was very rude. She was not hopeful or even encouraging. She told me and my mom that I was going to fail all my courses and will have to wait til the end of the school year. Basically, she wanted to hold me back. Who would have known how right she was. In the end, it worked out and I was able to attend Northview.…

Over the years, my interest and awareness regarding reading and writing have varied from time to time. I remember my mother reading bedtime stories to me as a child and actually painting my personal pictures to what she was saying. Once I was old enough to read the stories myself, I would go back and compare my mental pictures with those that were in the book. During my elementary days, I found the novice level of reading and writing to still be interesting. Everything from transferring imaginary stories I had thought of onto a sheet of paper to tell the entire class about my church league team winning the basketball championship the previous Saturday, I thoroughly enjoyed writing and felt I had a personal connection to it.…

I mostly write for academic purposes, and never for entertainment. Writing is not as enjoyable for me as it is for others because of one potent memory from third grade. I was asked by the teacher to write a personal narrative about the exciting three month summer break that we had. I distinctly remember my classmates reciting their eventful summers when asked to share all the while I was dreading my turn to share. My family does not go on many vacations and I do not mind that fact, but every summer I do not have the "exciting and adventurous" summer break as everyone else. I prefer to relax in my house and sleep in late during the summer. So instead of writing a personal narrative, I wrote a fictional story of my summer. I kept my story realistic so that the fictional summer I had was believable. It was then that I had an epiphany that of all the writing styles, fictional writing would most likely be my strongest point. There is no limit in what can happen in a fictional story. How I see it is that I am limited to what I can experience in the outside world, so I can create my own fictional world in a way that fiction could almost be my alternate parallel realm.…
