Teachers nowadays agreed that communication is pretty important. In fact, it’s a necessary component of education and basic functionality in our society. It’s also fairly obvious that there are two main ways to communicate, basically, we talk and we write. That’s how we let other people know what’s going on, and it’s an important skill to have. Just about every student can talk, but why writing is a challenging task for ESL?
For some students, writing it is viewed as a challenging task because in their mother tongue writing is not taught as teachers do in English, Writing skills in English are important to learn. ESL teachers need to encourage student participation by making the experience interesting and motivating.
Most ESL students want to learn English to be able to speak the language, not write it. However, learning writing skills is an important aspect of learning English as students could be able to write in English for professional or formal reasons. Those who wish to live in an English speaking country will most definitely need to be able to write in English in order to fill out forms and other administrative papers concerning their everyday lives.
When speaking, there are a number of factors that help make the task easier for a foreign language speaker: speaking usually takes place in a certain context and conversation is often informal in everyday life and easier for an ESL student to become involved in and practice.
Writing, however, is a much more formal process. ESL students will most likely have to use their writing skills for formal and professional reasons, like business English, Applications forms, etc. This can be very stressful if they have never learnt to write in English.
Not we have seen why writing it is viewed as a challenging task, so far we have seen the different aspects of what makes writing Writing academically requires you to decide whether your sources are credible and which ones are most relevant to your topic. You have to understand who your audience is and what they already know and what they need to know. Then you have to determine what kind of examples or facts will be the most meaningful for your readers (audience) and put it all into language that your audience will understand.
Handwriting is a basic tool used in many subjects – taking notes, taking tests, and doing classroom work and homework for almost every content area as well as in language arts classes – poor handwriting can have a pervasive effect on school performance.
Moreover, when handwriting is perceived as arduous and time-consuming, motivation to write may be greatly reduced, leading to a lack of practice that may further compound difficulties with writing.
Finally, handwriting in the earliest grades is linked to basic reading and spelling achievement; for example, when children learn how to form the letter m, they can also be learning its sound. Attention to the linkages among handwriting, reading, and spelling skills can help to reinforce early achievement across these areas.

Communication is one of the most challenging skills for me. When learning this new challenging skill, I am asked to initially overcome fears against the odds, which slowly appear surmountable with the passage of time. For me the ability of communication is like building a tower, then writing skill is a part of the tower and I call it “wall brick”. In order for this tower to stand the bricks must be strong. Though flourished rhetoric in writing can enhance a paper in some aspects, I believe that a logical structure is the key to quality composition. Wring, in any language, was never appreciated by me. Thus I just had some inferior bricks at first. I kept those low-grade materials and tumbledown “tower” for a long time until I transferred to another high school where I met my wonderful teachers. I used to hate writing, but when I entered my new high school the way I write has been totally impacted and was deeply branded.…

Instead of paying attention to form, composition students in secondary and post-secondary classrooms have been asked to focus on content. This leads to more engaged learning, more critical thinking and, in the end, better form. These benefits show themselves in ESL classrooms, as well (Kasper 348). The process approach has been problematized, however, by the presence of non-mainstream speakers in the FYC classroom who feel no less amount of pressure when asked to free write in Standard English. This has led to research involving the use of non-Standard English in the process of writing college essays. In ESL classes this has included the use of both native language as well as ‘interlanguage,’ which is a Pidgin English with a grammatical structure often adapted from the native language, used to quickly implement new vocabulary. The difference between NSD and L2 learner usage of native language in the composing process, as documented by research, seems to exist along an axis between practical and emotional concerns. While Keith Gilyard and Judy Jordan point to the reduction in social stigma afforded by the use of familiar English dialects, Kasper notes how ESL teachers focus on building learner confidence by dealing first with matters of content in a more relaxed language and then adopting Standard English for matters of form (359). But these…

I believe it is very important for any student who wants to do the best work in the class to take a moment to evaluate their work and determine the rate whether their writing is progressing or not. More importantly, how can they continue to advance their writing? Thus, When I looked through my own work I ask myself: “what have I learned this semester? ” well, the most single important piece of knowledge I have gained in ESL class this semester was the fact that outlining before started. What stage of the writing process gives you the most difficulty? Is it drafting, revising, editing or proofreading? The answer for many of us the hardest part of all is getting started. And the most effective strategy to get started is to outline an article. Before I got in ESL408, I had been just written a lot of paragraphs and integrate them simply, therefore, my essay often have a little messy up and lack the distinct clue. And worth than that, I get so nervous when I have to write, because I do not know where to start, how to start. Thus, writing is just about the worst punishment you can give me. However, the first thing that has proven highly effective for my writing is to outline my articles before I start writing, which is a crucial tool for…

It is so important that students not only be able to recognize and read the words they are seeing, but to also have the ability to write grammatically correct sentences, paragraphs, etc. Students will not just encounter writing tasks during their time with us as a learning community, but will encounter these situations all through their lives. Whether it be writing reports or business transactions on the job or drafting a letter to someone of higher power and authority, like the President of the United States or a letter to an administrator of a hospital. Thus, writing is an essential element of language arts that needs to be taught in isolation, but to a certain extent. For students in the primary grade levels, writing should be taught solely in an isolated setting. This will again allow teachers to give students individualized attention to help them improve their writing skills. Once students reach the intermediate grade levels and beyond, writing should be integrated throughout the curriculum. With this being said, integrated writing beyond the primary grade levels will allow students to experience the important of writing further and to students will be able to focus and learn of the importance writing has in other areas besides language arts. This allows students to experience how professionals must use the skill in their everyday careers. An example is a…
