What they wrote demonstrates that a main cause of the groundswell is caused by the availability of new technological advancements to people. Also, peoples’ previously innate desire to help others contributes to the groundswell more than ever. These two combined have certainly posed a threat to traditional institutions.
According to Li and Bernoff, they think that “People take entertainment properties like TV shows and movies, rip them off the airwaves and DVDs, hack them, and repost new versions on YouTube or Dailymotion.” (212) It was notable that they considered people take entertainment content and post them online for free for others. This has undoubtedly been done by numerous people. This must cause the original producers of the ripped off content to miss out on a lot of money. It is quite unfortunate that the owner of these institutions is likely to have their original idea exploited by others. They realistically assumed that if anyone has a brand in this generation, they are now under threat. Everyone of their examples seems typical. When they brought up that “Even inside companies, your employees are connecting on social networks, building ideas with online collaboration tools, and discussing the pros and cons of your policies and priorities” (Li and Bernoff 213). It seems that most could think of this association considering how there are so many people using social media now where it’s easy for employees to discuss about the pros and cons of the company they work at.
