Why I Admire My Mother
My Mother
In every person’s life, there is someone they undoubtedly look up to and, without a second thought, my admiration goes towards my supportive and considerate mother. To the world, she has not done anything extraordinary like finding the cure for cancer or winning a Nobel prize but, to me, every little thing she does each and every day is amazing.
Each morning I am awoken by her gentle and cheerful voice, giving me reassurance for the day ahead. She always tells me it is going to be a wonderful day, even in the stormiest of weather. She then goes off to a long day of work in order to provide for her family for which she cares so dearly. No matter her level of exhaustion she always returns home and proceeds to cook a meal. Even when my brothers and I are bickering and spewing venom in our words, she has never raised her voice; she just calmly listens to both sides of the story and, without fail, will always solve the conflict.
She has never once grown frustrated with me when I return home with a poor school grade; she simply sits down with me and calmly guides me through the work until she is certain that I understand. I can often become short tempered and say hurtful things towards her, but she never fights back or loses her composure. I am constantly amazed at her passion for life; she never wastes a moment and inhales every breath as if it is filled with roses.
Without a doubt, I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the woman I am proud to call my mother. Just the fact alone that she has been able to endure me for fifteen years is something to admire. She has guided me in the right direction from the day I was born and I am constantly thankful for that. I know I will lead a happy and successful life if the old saying that “you will become your mother” is indeed

I am her oldest child. I remember that young woman with a quick temper who could yell when she needed to. Now having my own children, I know that no one sees your worst sides like your children do. But I also watched her change, with the death of her own parents when she was in her 20’s, through the loss of a son, and through her battles with cancer. With each sorrow, mum grew in wisdom and strength, she reached out in ways that I am only still becoming aware of. She spoke with other mothers who lost sons and daughters, she knew the pain, she knew how awful that could be, and she knew how to comfort, hug, and cry with those who had lost one of their own. Through that loss she gained a different perspective on being a mother. She learned that love speaks louder than anger and that some things are not worth the fight. It’s a grandmother’s wisdom – and I hope and pray that I listened enough to take those lessons so hard learned to heart. When mum and dad found out last year that the cancer was terminal, that the cancer that we had hoped, prayed and believed was defeated had come back. She knew where she was going, and that she would see Wilder, my brother, again. That she would fight as hard as she…

First, she always manages to obtain a great present for any holidays. Even if small, a bag of bacon jerky or some candy on occasion is always treasured. Also, she constantly puts my sister and I before herself. If Granny is ever watching over my sister and I, she always asks what we want to do before all else. Another example of how loving she is, how she attempts to do what is fun for us when we are with her. Even if Granny struggles to perform well in darts or Dodgeball, she participates with us either way. I wish that I can eventually learn to be as loving as Granny…
