Serving the environment was not my first appeal. When I was a little boy, I always wanted to grow up and be a firefighter. I used to watch videos about people who were in trouble. The firefighters would always come to ”save the day”. However, as I grew older I learned it would be a dangerous job. My next inspiration, was from my dad. He is an architect. I was inspired by his drawings and wanted to be just like him. However my mind was never set on anything. When I entered second grade, I learned to be more respectful to the environment. I began to think about brain boggling questions, such as, “what would our world become if we maintained our spread of pollution? These were just thoughtful questions and they didn’t resolve into anything then. Seven years later I was introduced to, MSEL, a charter school at Terra Linda. I knew being part of MSEL would be a great learning experience and I would still get to play high school sports at Terra Linda. Before I completed the application, I had many factors to think about. Three of these factors were, why would I want to join MSEL, what were my expectations for this school, and what were my educational goals when I became enrolled?
My first and foremost question in my mind, was why join MSEL. MSEL has inspired me to become an environmental engineer. I want to take a stand by creating products that are environmentally beneficial. In order to confront my goal, I need to learn more about it. Specifically it’s history and factual evidence that will make me knowledgeable in my career. For example, one of my interests is to design solar panels. Another reason for joining MSEL is quite simple. It will strengthen my college application. When I go to college, I want people to know that I am interested in the environment. Although grades are important, colleges look beyond grades and at the person itself. Most colleges would not take someone who doesn’t show any
