It’s a cold frosty night in the trenches and nearly all the soldiers are fast asleep. John finds a spot to rest and prepares for the night. He takes out a blanket from his back and sees his little brother’s hat.
(Sigh deeply with tears in his eyes)
JOHN Why did you have to leave me so quick (pause) we didn’t finish off our debate about who will be the better football player
(Puts the hat against his chest and lies down looking at the stars)
I told you not to go further in the fields but you being the stubborn, arrogant show off that you are, carried on walking and then...then...don’t worry little brother, I will seek revenge, I will shoot him at the back of his head just the way he shot you. He took my innocent, joyful little brother away from me, I will take his life away from him...what goes around comes around right Kevy
(Looking up at the brightest star in the sky and talking to it pretending its Kevin)
Even in this terrifying field you didn’t fail to make me laugh or embarrass me in front of the rest. I don’t know how you did it...how do you put a smile on your face and be so positive all the time when really inside your crying like a mother cries for her dead child. What do you mean how do I know? Of course I know what’s been going round in your head, I’m your brother...and I failed to be a good brother, I failed at protecting you, I didn’t love you and show as much love as I should have...forgive me
(Closes his eyes)
I remember when you were just born...you had a heart-warming smile on your face it melted everyone’s heart. You defiantly got more girls than me, that charm you had I was quite jealous that I didn’t. It’s been exactly eleven days and five hours that you left me. Eighteen of December on Friday at exactly 3:45, I will never forget this day; the heavens were in need of another angel I guess.
(Open his eyes with tears running down his face)
