Name Date Period (The name, date and period should be removed if selected for the Science Fair) Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to find out if bananas will brown faster on the counter or in a refrigerator. Hypothesis If a banana is placed on the counter and another banana is placed in the refrigerator, then the banana placed in the refrigerator will brown faster. Materials 2 paper plates 2 bananas pencil and paper to record results Procedures 1. Get two paper plates. 2. Place one banana on one of the paper plates and place it in the refrigerator. 3. Place the second banana on another paper plate and place it on the counter. 4. Record observations daily. Responding (Dependent) Variable The banana placed on the counter browns faster than the banana placed in the refrigerator. It takes the banana on the counter six days to completely turn brown. It takes the banana in the refrigerator seven days to completely turn brown. Controlled Variables (Held Constant) The brand of banana was kept the same, along with the location of each banana. Conclusion Based on the data collected, the banana placed on the counter browned faster then the banana placed in the refrigerator. Therefore, the hypothesis was incorrect. Bibliography Brooks, John.
