Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Abbott Texas in Hill County April 29, 1933. He is part English, Iris and Cherokee according to his ancestry. Willie was named by his cousin Mildred, who also chose Hugh as his middle name, in honor of her recently deceased younger brother. His mother (Marie and father (Ira Nelson) were what you called free spirits who never stayed in one place very long at one time.
