Winning Isn't Everything
A well-known football coach once said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” This is the motto that many of the sport athletes we see on television and on the field live by. This motto can be a good motto or a bad motto to live by. I disagree with the statement “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing. There are many reasons that I could agree that the quotation is incorrect, but today I am going to argue three of my major points why this is incorrect. First, I believe that as long as you put your best foot forth then your always a winner, second, I believe that sometimes you need to loose to show you who you really and what you can do and to win you must loose and loosing motivates you to do better and makes you a greater team. To begin with, I believe that it is ok to loose sometimes as long as you know that you know you put your best foot first. Well some may ask the question well what do you mean by that? Well what I mean by that is your not always going to win but as long that you know that you put everything it to winning the game then you know that you are successful and there is nothing else you could have done to win the game. You can’t just use this quote just in sport, but this quote can apply to everything that happens in your life time. Many people go on different journeys throughout life and are successful. Most of the time you are never successful on your first try but if you give up the first time that you fail then you will never accomplish anything. For example Michael Jordan missed 62 free throw shots before he actually made 258 free throw shots. Well, you may ask the question why do you tell me this? Well I’m glad you asked I tell you this because if Michael Jordan who is one of the best basketball players that ever existed would have gave up because he missed 62 shots then he would have never made it to make the 258 shots that he made. So I can’t stress it enough how important it is not to give up when you fail the first time. A mistake is not a mistake unless you don’t learn from it. Now, believe that sometimes you need to loose to show you who you really and what you can do. That is such a true statement. Sometime you really have to loose because you save yourself trouble. For

example when the Florida lost a couple games ago to Georgia they saved themselves a lot of trouble. If they would have beat Georgia then they would have had to play Alabama which wouldn’t have been to good because they would have been in a even lower rank then they were before. So that’s why I believe that sometimes it can be good to loose. Also until you loose and are really tested you don’t fully understand what you can and can’t do. For example, you can sit in a class room and learn something all day but, until you are actually orally, physically or mentally you will never know what you can and can’t do. See on a time a lot of peple think that they can do this and do that but they don’t understand until someone makes an example out of them and shows them they can really do. After saying all of that, loosing makes you a better team. Well I know after saying that some people are saying how could you even come out of your mouth and say something like that? Well when a team looses they make it a part of there agenda to become a better team. When a team starts loosing the coach mentality is we got to something a little more. So the coach starts making the team do something a little more like practicing a little more. A real team doesn’t like loosing so loosing will motivate that team to do something a little bit more. Loosing really makes you a better team. If you really look at these days a lot of teams that are at the top now a few years ago were on the bottom but when they saw that they were on the bottom they had to do something to make it to the top. I really believe that you have to start at the bottom to make it to the top. In Conclusion, a lot was said in this paper. A well-known football coach once said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” This is the motto that many of the sport athletes we see on television and on the field live by. This motto can be a good motto or a bad motto to live by. I disagree with the statement “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing. that sometimes you need to loose to show you who you really and what you can do and to win you must loose and loosing motivates you to do better and makes you a greater team. I really believe that you cant just say that we as a team is nobody because we lost. If you put your best foot first then you know that you have won the victory within your hearts.

Likewise, perfection and happiness do not always come from winning or having money. The most important lesson I have learned this season was that being perfect is not about the scoreboard. It's not about winning. It's about you and your relationship with yourself, your family and your friends. Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn’t let them down because you did everything you could – that there wasn’t one more thing you could have done, and when the going got tough, you did not put your head down and give up, but you fought on. Winning is not about who hits the hardest, but who can get hit hard and still keep moving forward. Applying that mentality to my life has made me a more successful and happy person regardless of whether or not I win, lose, triumph or fail. Life and football are very similar, both have their ups and downs, and your ability to keep a level head and never get too high or too low is what makes you a winner. The experience of my last year of high school football was the culmination of all the lessons I have learned through out my life, on and off the…

“Do your job.” A simple quote by Bill Belichick (New England Patriots Head Football Coach) but this quote means a lot about my character. The reason it means a lot to me is because if you work tremendously hard and do your job your team will be successful. My head football coach, Mike Rowe uses this quote as well and adds “If everybody does your job you will be successful. Trust your teammates since they will fight for you and the rest of the team.” I am tying this quote to football but it can be used in any team sport you are involved in. Football teaches character and that’s why I love it so much. I’ve learned so much about myself and how I want to live my life just from being in football.…

Jim Thompson wrote, ”Sports provide an endless procession of teachable moments, which can be obscured by a win at all cost mentality.” I will explained with the information I have been given and with the information I already have. Sports, as I mentioned before, they can help in many different ways. For example, work when you are working and you stumble upon a problem that you can’t fix by yourself. You ask for help which is teamwork and collaboration. Jim Thompson Jim Thompson exclaimed, ”All distractions from the big picture life lessons that can include teachable spirit, resilience, grit, self confidence, teamwork, determination and empathy.” Finally one of the biggest and most important thing there is, don’t be selfish because you will ruined the point of the game for you and your teammates and then the point of the game will be for nothing no teamwork, no leadership and no…

An athlete can do one of two things, after experiencing a setback in sports;, they can either feel bad about themselves and the outcome of the event or they can learn from what happened. Transition Michael Jordan may have been the greatest basketball player to ever live. Though he did not make it there by always succeeding, he was determined to turn his failures into success.…

First of all, playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. They teach me discipline and I must do and Not do what coach says. Sports also teach me good sportsmanship. I learn to love the game by playing my opponent/friends and showing how to take a win or loss. Last year playing basketball we didn’t lose but one game, I was devastated. I like to think I took the Loss ok but I just blamed it all on myself. I got to show my winning spirts in a ton of games that season, and I think I showed my happiness well. Our team didn’t brag or show off we simply just played our game, and the results turned out as they may.…

Malcolm X once said, “There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.” In the face of overwhelming adversity, what gives me the cause to hope? Ever since I was little I have been competitive in all different levels and types of sports, many of which I have stared right into the face of adversity. Injuries, family problems, and being strewn out between 400 miles of highway between Tennessee and Georgia have given me plenty of reason to give up on my sports…my true passion and desire. Did I give up? Did I let the face of adversity tear me down? No. I let my desire to persevere build me up even stronger. Instead of adversity staring me in the face, I was the one staring into adversity’s face. I have been asked, “What gives me the cause to hope?” Being able to prove to myself and others that I am capable of withstanding and overcoming any obstacle that life and adversity throws at me, is what gives me the cause to hope. I have learned over the years that no matter how hard or how massive the obstacle, if you believe in yourself and have faith in you and your abilities, you will persevere. You have to be wondering, it cant just be the desire to prove myself that gives me cause to hope, what else could it be? I have faith in myself and in my character traits. I know that everything I am faced with I will fight with the heart of a C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N. To me the word C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N. means: Courage, Hard Work, Attitude, Motivation, Perseverance, Integrity, Outstanding, and Desire to be Number One. I truly believe that when I am facing adversity in the face that I will prove myself and fight with the heart of a C.H.A.P.I.O.N. I agree with Scott Hamilton when he says this, “Adversity, and perseverance and all these things can shape you. They can give you a value and a self-esteem that is…

I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” The reason that this is a good quote is because Michael was telling us how he was able to succeed in his basketball life. He took many shots and missed many shots but he was able to still be successful in spite of that. I have previously been enrolled in PT school in the past, but I was dismissed from the program. I have since been accepted to another PT program and now I know that I will succeed within this program because I will be able to look back at how my previous experience was and I will utilize these experiences to drive myself towards the success of becoming a high quality physical therapist. As a future PT I will put my patient’s needs first and the information that I obtain while in school will allow me to have the proper knowledge to provide appropriate interventions for my patients so that they are making progress towards achieving their goals.
