Winning The Lottery
Many things have gone through my head when I think of the possibilities I would have if I ever won the lottery. Although it does seem like a huge stretch, I do often think of what I could do with such a large sum of money. Many people could only hope to have the opportunities that come with winning the lottery. I do know that my winnings would be put to many great uses along with of course a few special treats of my own. A few I can name that would benefit from my winnings would be charities, family, friends, and of course myself. First, I would donate to charities, there are too many to possibly mention but I would start and really focus on the homeless and the Vets. The homeless and the Vets, I think could really benefit from any amount i could give. I may also think about focusing on a few people that I may know that need a fresh start at life. This fresh start may only happen if someone is willing to give them money to actually get the ball rolling. I do feel there are many more charities but I would have to spread out my wealth first and come back to more depending. I know many friends of my mom's that …show more content…
I have two families in two different households so I would start by purchasing them both a new house or paying off the house they live in. This I would ask them and have them decide based on what they would want. I have so many siblings ranging in so many ages, I think the best I could do for them is take them on a toy shopping spree. I think they would have the best time and that may be the one day we all get along. I would also love to help my friends with the college tuition. Not all my friends would be fortunate to go because of cost so if that's all I could do for them they would be thrilled. I know my friends and family would not expect much from me, if anything at all, but honestly considering all they have done for me and the amount they have been there for me, I couldn't find a better way to repay

After reading the Lottery, the greatest downfall of this society is clinging to old traditions, which makes it impossible for an entire community to progress. The village people are convinced to conduct the lottery in June in order to have a prosperous year. However, many nearby villages have eliminated the practice and numerous young adults have advocated for the brutal acts towards an innocent human being. Because the village has decided to keep the tradition, the lottery is only growing tenser throughout the years, and families are being put at odds with one another because there is constant danger dangling above their heads. This village is clearly not a good place to live if one values the lives of innocents and freedom. It is chained by the oppression of the lottery and the inferiority of women. Every year, a family loses an important member in a public stoning event. The village is unwilling to give up a tradition that is no longer applicable to its way of life. Furthermore, women are treated with an air of inferiority. They are to stand next to their husbands while the men draw for the fate of the family. No new innovations are established in this growing town, and people are feeling more trapped as their families continue to grow. If I were in charge of the society, I would eliminate the lottery as my first order of business. This would allow the community to live more freely, without the anxiety of watching a loved one being publicly executed. The lottery is about changes, you have to change your olds way. I would introduce new traditions in place of the lottery. I would add an annual cook off festival for the seventy-seven innocent’s people that lost they life’s. I would promote creativity in the schools for the children in hopes of modernizing the town and allowing it to thrive on the youth.…

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a short story about a small town and their unique summer tradition. This stories thematic element is conformity and rebellion, showing “a clash between two well-articulated positions in which a rebel, on principle, confronts and struggles with established authority” (Abacarian and Klotz, 289). Jackson’s short story caught my attention through her suspenseful structural technique, and incorporation of a serious, seemingly absurd, event in a nonchalant manner.…

    Smart Goals

When most people are asked what goals they have, a lot of people will not be able to think of something off the top of their head. If they have any goals in mind it is likely that they have had those goals for a while or at least thought about them in depth at some point. However, the majority of goals that people set for themselves are either to broad or just unrealistic overall. For example, if someone says that their goal is to lose 100lbs in a month obviously that is unachievable and extremely dangerous. When I look at the goals that I chose to list above, I understand what the goal is and have the overall concept of what I want to achieve with that goal. However, after putting my goals in the smart goal format I can see a big difference in what they mean to me. The smart goal format helps narrow down the overall purpose that I am trying to achieve. For example, the first goal that I put on my original list is buy a house. Now if I were to put that in a back of my mind and say that is a goal that I want to achieve in the future it could become a lost cause. By using the smart goal format I have narrowed the goal from an unlimited amount of time to two years and have set a specific amount to save up to in order to make my mortgage payments lower than they would be with no down payment and therefore easier to choose where I want to live. When I look at the second goal that I listed I see that it is another open ended goal. When I…

What is the definition of inhumanity? Inhumanity is great cruelty and a lack of humanity. Once you understand that a normal human being would then question how people could be so cruel to one another. The inhumanity of taking chance is evident in “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson. The author paints a vivid picture of how taking a gamble is not worth the loss.…
