They also rebelled against the government by swearing into the Brotherhood. Winston and Julia were not afraid to take a stand against the government. They said they are willing to do anything including killing innocent people, and giving up their own lives. The only condition they did not agree on was splitting up. The act of swearing in to the Brotherhood showed that Julia and Winston were not afraid of Big Brother, and they were willing to do whatever came their way. In the totalitarian society there can be marriage, but there cannot be love between the couple. The marriage between men and women is watched closely. There is a complete loss of privacy as individuals are watched in their homes. The members of the society cannot do anything in peace and they cannot love each other or they will be punished. The marriage between Winston and his wife Katherine became frigid and cold resulting in a separation between the two of them. The novel concludes and Winston loves no one but Big Brother. In conclusion, a various amount of songs can be related to the novel 1984. There are many connections to songs that can be made through many characters and events within the story.
