Since its beginning, the Coachella music festival has seen a rise in popularity and price, attracting not only a wider audience but also exhibiting a greater tendency toward “mainstream” music. Though the culture of the festival itself has changed, the poster that advertises it has remained surprisingly the same. The poster depicts the bare Indio Valley with a mountain in the background, palm trees across the horizon, and a dramatic sky taking over much of the space. In the forefront, the three-day line-up is displayed. The poster never contains advertisements, the font is always the same, and the structure of the line-up never changes. With this layout Coachella places the music at the center of the festival, but upon deconstructing this poster and removing that center, it is clear that it is also creating a carefully constructed image of an idyllic, tranquil, and understated event that is committed to maintaining its originality. However, this is in fact a crafted image and Coachella is far more affected by the presence of its audience.…

For those people that didn’t know about my ambition and what it really meant to sacrifice, it meant a lot to my family. I’ve gotten involved in school activities, community service, and school events and a lot more. I felt that once I graduated from school I would be able to get involved with continuing education even more.…

Last month, on Friday, January, 30, 2015, at 7:30 in the evening my friends and I attended a concert, Wind Symphony, in downtown Toronto. It was at the Edward Johnson Building McMilan Theatre, 80 Queens Park. The concert was conducted by the University of Toronto band and the conductor was Tony Gomes. The two musicians that played my instrument were Brian Burell, and Caleb Michalski. The layout is that there were clarinets in the front to the left and the flutes were at the front to the right. There were a lot of clarinets and flutes! Whereas, in our Beginner band class, the location is opposite. Also, behind the clarinets were the trumpets. In comparison, the trumpets weren't as many as clarinets because the tone and volume are much stronger and effective with less people. Beside the trumpet players were the trombone players. To the far right in the back were the euphoniums/baritones and tuba. There were 2 euphonium players and 1 tuba player. Lastly, all along the back of the stage were the percussionists. There were many different kinds of percussion such as tenor drums, sticks, harp, piano, and many more. The compositions of many instruments made the concert very harmonic.…

A night of Music at the Dunham theatre, the first piece played at the venue was a wonderful piece by Gustav Holst called Second suite in f. Starting off very subtle and with a sequence that continues throughout the whole piece. As the brass and percussion make entry the pitch of the winds dim down while the others increase making the dynamics of the music vary from a very delicate to very strong when the percussion and brass sections start playing. It's melody had a very folk tune to it, then doing some research Gustavs music was derived from old folk tunes which many folk tunes are composed in strophic form. It's homophonic sound was well accompanied by the percussion adding a very strong march while not losing its initial…
