The Wisconsin MBA Resume Guide
________________________________________________________________________
Introduction
As a result of a recommendation from the Dean’s Advisory Board and several corporate recruiters requesting that all Wisconsin MBA students have one version of their business school resume developed with a consistent and uniform format in mind, MBA Career
Management has created this resume guide. This document provides you with appropriate resources and assistance in the construction of a “primary” resume. After review of the Wisconsin MBA Resume Guide, students will be introduced to a resume template to be utilized to ease the conversion process of formatting their current resume into the desired template format. Many business schools throughout the country currently make similar requests of their students regarding this significant document. Recruiters receiving resume books of MBAs have also commented that the use of a template tends to set one particular business school’s resumes apart from others with a unified appearance. Our goal is to ensure a consistent format so that reviewing resumes is simplified for recruiters and hiring managers.

One looks like a movie poster. Another is a Facebook profile. One even requires a bar code. Are these insanely creative resumes a waste of time? Possibly, but these resumes landed job interview for their creators. We asked career coaches if and when it pays to be creative. The consensus: It depends where you're applying to. "Your resume has to dress the part," says career counselor Lynn Berger. "Just like you wouldn't wear a miniskirt to a job interview, you need to match the resume to the job you're looking for." Eric Gandhi got an email from Google after creating a resume that resembled a Google results page. Joe Kelso, who made a resume like a monster movie poster, said his resume was his secret weapon: it got him an interview without fail. Career coach Win Sheffield says you need to think back to the purpose of a resume: To get a meeting. "I read a book once where this guy sits down in a meeting and has a resume with bold letters, and it's underlined, and the interviewer says, 'I don't approve of this resume,' and the guy thinks to himself 'well, I'm here.'"…

All of the Smart Briefs I have been choosing I realized have focused on subjects similar to that of our assignments in this class and my choice for this Smart Brief is no different. The Smart Brief I chose is titled “The Secret to Resume Success” and was written by Romy Newman, President and Co-Founder of Fairygodboss, on huffpost.com. Now all of us have applied for jobs in the past, are currently applying for jobs, and or will in the future. In my 22 years of life I have applied for several jobs but have only gotten a few of the jobs that I have applied for and very soon I will be yet again looking for a new job. During this class we have been working on our resumes, networking, and our portfolios. While I know I have a decent resume I know it could be better. The very first thing…
