As long as an action serves to promote your own interests, then it’s the morally right thing to do. There will be many different situations where murder, rape, lying, and even stealing will be the right thing to do but since there are so many situations where these types of actions are the best means of promoting your own interests. But mainly, such actions are just plain wrong, regardless of whether performing them would benefit us. The way that an egoist and utilitarian might think about such as decision would be by the motive of self-interest and the consequences/ or outcome out of the action/ or situation. An egoist would believe that only they should act from the motive of self-interest but nothing is stated about what motives others should at from. People who would acknowledge that you have respect and empathy for not only yourself but for others, too would be realize that you are not selfish and notice other people's’
