In this story, Baum wrote about many colors; grey, white, red, blue, green and yellow. My interpretation of the color grey is to think it's meant to symbolize sadness or being scared, like being in the storm or when the characters were going through the forest. I think white probably symbolized all things good, for example Glinda, the good witch, who wore a white dress. As far as the yellow brick road, it made me think of gold, like a treasure or money, so possibly symbolizing following the road to find your treasure. The green in Emerald City was most likely representing riches, like money or the prize at the end of their journey. Emerald City is where the Wizard of Oz was and he was supposed to give them what they desperately needed. …show more content…
On the West Shore Community College website I found an article titled, Color and It's Uses, written by Mike Nagle who teaches at that school. He talked about how L. Frank Baum made a reference to the United States in his book when they meet Glinda, "she is described with colors of the national flag, as a woman with rich red hair, a dress of pure white, and blue
