The Wizard of OZ is an allegory some say, written by Frank Baum during the turnoff the 20th Century. There are many people who have made numerous comparisons between the political climate of the time, the characters and themes of the book. Initially a children’s novel, the book has come to mean so much more for so many more. For this project you will research the Populist movement and compare what you find to the research you complete on the true meaning of the Wizard of OZ. Each group has been assigned a character and/or place to research and compare. Make sure that everyone in the group is delegated a role and that the group leader is making sure that all roles are fulfilled on time.
Project Board: 1. You will need to obtain a tri-fold project board for the visual presentation of the project. You will only be placing the board requirements not the actual paper on the board. 2. On the right side of the board you will place the facts about the character and/or place that you have been assigned from the book. 3. On the left side you will include all of the highlights for the actual person that your character and/or place represents in the Populist Era. 4. In the middle of the board you will place political cartoons from the Populist movement and the relationship that it has with the Wizard of OZ. Political cartoons are illustrations that usually poke fun of a situation in the political world, they are usually satirical in nature. 5. Lastly the visual appearance of the project will also play a role in the overall grade of the project. Be creative and thoughtful when designing your board. Bells and whistles are a bonus! 6. The project board will make up 50% of your overall grade.
Presentation:
1. While all members of the group do not need to verbally present the project board, all members should be at the front of the room at the time of the presentation. 2. While presenting make sure that you have
