While some people think about dog intelligence, think about where that intelligence comes from, the wolf may or may not be smarter than the Dog.
To talk about social smarts you’d think the dog would be the dominant because of how lovable it is, and that wolves have higher aggression toward each other, but then when they share food the wolves seem to share food a lot easier than dogs by “Negotiating” a share of food. When dogs share food the most dominant dog usually would eat and lesser dogs just keep their distance.
There was a test conducted by Behavioral Biologist Friederike Range, this test to see how the dogs and wolves could learn by example. Range set up a scenario where there was a food treat locked in a box with a lever that could open the box, Range had trained multiple dogs to show two different methods to open the box, the first way, was to open the lever by using their paw and the second one being to open it with their mouth. After the dogs and the wolves had done what they could, the results were in and only a quarter out of the 15 dogs were able to get the treat while on the other hand all 12 of the wolves got the treat.

After the test results were in only 1 dog, which was a shelter dog was able to get to the sausage out of the 8 of 10 wolves who got the sausage the presence of the owner didn’t affect the test, 1 pet and 8 wolves ate the sausage and nothing noteworthy happened between the two variations of the
