Every house has its own story to tell; when it was built, who lived in it, or any tragedy. Imagine building a house without at blue print and it kept on changing and getting bigger everyday. That 's what Sarah Winchester did until her death in 1922. Her home had grown to 160 rooms, 40 bedrooms,47 (Marck, n.d.) fireplaces, 17 chimneys, 950 doors, staircases that go nowhere, and cabinets that are the sole entry to entire wings. We might have some movies that is similar to the Winchester 's house like “The Haunting” and “Rose Red”…

The ghost story gave me mixed feelings on how to take it from a historian point of view. The story was Mr. Fleetwood’s own perception of what happened and how he remembered it at that moment. I will cover the rationality of trusting the content, the justification of it being historically true, and if the metaphysical evidence of ghost must be true for the story to be historically true.…

The Nine lives causeway was part or nature. ‘...When the tide came in, it would quickly be quite submerged and untraceable’, it isn’t just beautiful, it can be a little frightening because the causeway is the only path to you and civilisation. Being far away from society is also a key to gothic literature and the use of the Nine lives causeway makes use of this. ‘The marshes were black and silent, stretching away from me for miles.’, this truly comes to show that the marshes surrounded the area and you cannot escape.…

For this project you will write a narrative essay about a significant moment of your life using the literary strategies of plot, character, and setting. This should be a moment when you learned something important about yourself or someone else, or about life. You will develop your story through the use of contraries, creating tension that moves the story forward and gives it significance. You can discuss the importance of your story explicitly, perhaps as a revelation, or you can imply it. Either way, it should be clear that you have contemplated the significance of the event and have pushed your thinking past the obvious, surface-level impact. The focus of your narrative should be “The Moment,” with only enough background to convey its understanding to the reader.…

Assignment: As stated in Allyn and Bacon’s Guide to Writing, your goal is to “write a narrative essay about something significant in your life using the literary strategies of plot, character, and setting. Develop your story through the use of contraries, creating tension that moves the story forward and gives it significance. You can discuss the significance of your story explicitly, perhaps as a revelation, or you can imply it. Use specific details and develop contraries that create tension. In the Allyn and Bacon text, (the authors) argue that a narrative qualifies as a story only when it depicts a series of connected events that create for the reader a sense of tension or conflict that is resolved through a new understanding or change in status. Your goal for this assignment is to write a story about your life that fulfills these criteria.…

You seem to know more about our ghost stories than I do. We certainly have a lot of old castles and other old buildings to generate plenty of ghost stories. I did a job about 20 years ago, it was an old disused vicarage ( a big house used by a vicar and owned by the church ), we were converting it into flats, and somebody on the job started a rumour that the building was haunted so we started calling this ghost Marmaduke, it was a long running joke on that job. Every time someone new came on to the job we warned them about the ghost, and it got to the point where no one would work late on their own, even though we'd made it up, it made us wonder, what if there is a ghost ? once that thought got in your head it took over, just shows the power and vulnerability of the mind, and the power of a suggestion. I'll post this bit before I read the rest of your…
