My presentation is inspired by a book I read at the begining of this year, wrote by Gail Evans. The name of the book is „Play like a man, win like a woman” and it’s a practical guide for business women who must develop their business and approach success in domains dominated mostly by men. Love the game, with these words Gail Evans concludes one of the most successful and influential books about women in the business world.
Gail Evans began working at CNN at its inception in 1980. By the time she retired, 21 years later, she was its Executive Vice President. During that time, she was responsible for program and talent development at all CNN's domestic networks overseeing national and international talk shows and the Network Guest Bookings Department, which schedules about 25,000 guests each year.
The most interesting part of the book which is related to my topic is chapter 6, „Five things men are allowed to do at the workplace and women aren’t”. Evans sais that women must pay a lot of attentions to these apparently small things, because they have the potential to ruin a business meeting or even an entire business deal.
The firs one is men can cry in a tensioned or emotional situation, women cannot. In the business world a man crying once is seen as revealing his human, emotional part. If a woman does the same thing she is seen as weak, nevrotic and emotional unstable even if the circumstances are the same in the two situations.
The second one is men can have love affairs at the workplace, women cannot. The explanation is simple, people still think that women are trying to improve their professional status by using their sexuality to get where they want. Such a person will lose the respect she has in the eyes of the business parteners, superiors or colleagues.
The third thing women are not allow to do is get angry and agressive. An angry woman will be seen as out
