In many books of literature, women are portrayed as evil, and wicked. King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table by Lancelyn Green is about the adventures of King Arthur and his knights of the round table. Women depicted in Green’s version of the Arthurian Legend are portrayed as manipulative, tempting, and cheaters.
To begin Morgan Le Fey is portrayed as an evil manipulator (p.69). She manipulates Sir Accolon into trying to kill Arthur, “These two knights, King Arthur and Sir Accolon in strange armour with closed visors and no devices on their shields to show who they were, met together in the green meadow, neither knowing the other (p.70). This proves that Morgan Le Fay was trying to manipulate Sir Accolon, because if
Sir Accolon knew it was Arthur he would have not fought him. Another example of how Morgan Le Fay is a manipulator is in the following quotation “ ‘Mercy you shall have’ answered Arthur, ‘For I see that this battle was not of your doing, but my sister’s, Ah, Accolon she has deceived me also, by her beauty and her magic wiles, the good Merlin warned me, but I would not take warning. Now will I send her from my court, or slay her if she brings any man to his death’ ” (p.p. 73-74) This quote states that Morgan Le Fay did manipulate Accolon into trying to kill Arthur.
Next the Lady of the castle in Sir Gawain and the green knight is portrayed as a temptress (p.91). For example, Long they spoke together, and many words of love did the lady utter (p.91). This states that even though she was married, she tried to tempt Gawain into kissing her. For another example that she is a temptress is that she said “ ‘but this one day we may love’ ” (p.94). This states that she want’s to, and is tempting Gawain into things he knows is wrong.
Lastly Guinevere is portrayed as an adulteress in this book by she says “ ‘Come to me in my garden at sundown, for I would like to thank you alone’ ” (p.301). This quote states that she wants Lancelot alone, and that can end up in her doing something else besides thanking him. For another example that states that Guinevere is portrayed as an adulteress is that she says “ ‘Oh, Lancelot, Lancelot’ she said softly ‘ since the first day that you came to Camelot, when I was a little more than a girl, the bride of King Arthur, I saw you and loved you’ ” (p.302). This states that she is trying to make Lancelot fall in love with her.
Women in the Arthurian legend have proven to be manipulative, tempters, and cheaters. The women in the Arthurian Legend are proven to me manipulative by when Morgan Le Fay manipulated Sir Accolon into killing Arthur. Also the women are temping by the lady in the castle in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tried to tempt Gawain into kissing her. Lastly Guinevere is portrayed as a cheater by she tried to make Lancelot fall in love with her. Although Roger Lancelyn Green portrayed women as manipulative, tempters and cheaters, quite the opposite women today are rather loving, caring, and nurturing.
