She seems pretty nice. (Yes, we're talking about an elephant here.)The two humans dance for a brief moment before Marlena stops them, and they go back to her part of the train.August comes in and he's furious: Al paid way too much for the elephant, in his opinion, and they don't know what to do with her. Plus, Al hired more people with nowhere to put them, so everyone's going to have to crunch, and morale will be low.Demoralized, they all drink a huge amount of whiskey. (Not the best coping mechanism, we'd say.)Drunk, Jacob makes his way back to his room. On his way, he passes two people getting hot and heavy outside. When he gets to his car, Kinko is hosting a large, raucous party. Jacob is invited to join, and the drinking only gets worse.Jacob is hammered when two women, Barbara and Nell, come over to and start hitting on him. They take him somewhere else and start undressing him and touching him. Things are getting pretty intense when Jacob throws up all over everything. Wow, way to ruin the moment (although we're kind of glad he did). The next day, Jacob wakes up hurting. Kinko comes to get him – August is looking for him. Turns out, Jacob has been dressed up like a clown and shoved into a big chest. Plus, someone shaved off all his hair (down there). Talk about a circus prank. He's super embarrassed and has to leave the room looking very strange.Jacob heads back to his room and can't stop thinking…

Women didn’t have it very easy on the Oregon Trial. They had many chores/jobs they had to get done. And those jobs were no walk in the park. They were hard, laborious, and dirty jobs. They were also often “handed” these jobs. Women were often taken granted for. In the men’s minds, they were trivial, but that was far from true. If women hadn’t gone on the Oregon Trail, it probably wouldn’t have gotten that far. Women and girls play a big rule in Women and girls had to adjust to very rough conditions.…

England, a small and familiar place for many, was a community with very strict rules and beliefs. The Church of England was the dominant power over the country, and not everyone was happy with this dictatorship. Once the land in America was founded, Puritans and other men searching for freedom gathered and sailed across the sea to the new land. America became a “melting pot” full of various traditions, cultures, and beliefs from England as well as new “American” ideas. This process took time and involved adapting and hard work to civilize the land. In 1893, Frederick Jackson Turner discussed and wrote about the frontier and how it shaped American characteristics. He talked about the steps the Europeans had to take to transform the environment into one with reasonable laws and into one with more of a community rather than mere wilderness. “As successive terminal moraines result from successive glaciations, so each frontier leaves its traces behind it, and when it becomes a settled area the region still partakes of the frontier characteristics. (Turner 153)”1This quote talks about the frontier having characteristics from the old country, England, as well as new developed ones from America. Turner’s argument is based off the European men arriving in American and having to adapt to the Indian lifestyle which consisted of hunting and of living off the land. Later the Europeans introduced their own more civilized ideas to further the society and build up the area as a whole. Turner only talked about the male figures shaping America and completely disregarded women and their roles in the community. Although Turner’s “frontier thesis” involving males shaping America became a very prominent idea, Elizabeth Ashbridge and Mary Rowlandson, two women, wrote about their completely different experiences. Elizabeth Ashbridge and Mary Rowlandson both represent victims of slavery and viewed the frontier as a place of fear, confusion,…

When the men had to go leave for war, this opened up a vast majority of jobs for women to take over since the work industry could not stop without men as the economy of Canada would become terrible. Women had to do jobs that they would normally never do, like working labour jobs or in factories of different kinds. Even through all the trauma and stress women were going through, they were being very successful with having these many job opportunities. Most women had kids that they had to watch too, so they weren’t just doing one job. Also, the most favoured job that women were choosing was becoming a nurse, about 2400 women became a nurse in this time of the year. These nurses had to sometimes go into battles and help the wounded and they also helped treat…

The Canadian government has been building better relations with Canadian women. Over the last century, women did not have the right to vote, let alone be considered a person in Canada. Women were unable to articulate their ideas fluently in Canada. Males were portrayed as more superior over women, which resulted in an insufferable relationship between women and the Canadian government. During the First World War, women were given the opportunity to contribute to Canada and work outside of their homes to replace the males who had to vacate their jobs for the war. After world war one, women fought long and hard for the right to enter the senate, a constitutional ruling took place…
