History of Women’s History Month
In 1978, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women in California designated the second week in March as Women’s History Week to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8.
Many countries celebrate International Women’s Day with demonstrations, educational initiatives, women conferences, events and customs such as presenting women with gifts and flowers.
President Jimmy Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation in 1980 declaring the week to become nationally recognized.
Before long, state
