Women would just stay home take care of the children and keep the home clean. “What’s happening with marriage law is that when a woman marries a marries a man during [the 19th century], she basically surrendered all of her property rights- including important property rights in her physical person - to her husband.” (Mangu-Ward 1). Men were considered to be manly, strong and not weak. They had to be leaders and that meant in their homes as well. As in today men can cook, babysit, hairstylist, housekeeping. Especially women, it has been and always will be a big change for them. There has been studies as well, that show marriage changing constantly and affecting most of the time for women "... we study the evolution of marriage seasonality in relation to economic change, particularly connected to changes in labour supply and work intensity of the kind implied by the 'industrious revolution' (Dribe, Martin and Bart Van De Putte 1123). Women were known as weak people and were always inferior to men. They always craved that freedom to show men they were capable of doing a "man's job". These desires have led women stand up for their rights and take action on changing this unfair tradition. Women took a big step by fighting for their individual rights as to be treated equal. Women's rights were given to them during the 19th century, changing a woman's position in marriage. Today, in the U.S; the Bill of Rights also apply to women. For example, they can divorce if they feel unhappy during marriage. Men no longer had control over wives unless they let them. They can vote and not rely on the husband's vote. She has the right to work for a career she has passion for. As to this, it doesn't apply for many countries because of religious beliefs. In some countries women aren't even allowed to show any skin. It keeps the marriage from being destroyed because then other men will know she is taken.
