Women’s rights have just began to take shape as of not too long ago, so their rights have come a long ways since. Women used to be thought of as lesser beings in some ways, how they were only good for housekeeping and maintaining children while the men worked. This was seen as unfair, so women began their seemingly never ending search for fair rights. The search for rights began in the Renaissance and escalated in the Enlightenment era when women began to philosophize about the rights of women. Women’s rights truly began to take form in the 19th century when princesses and many other powerful women figures helped defy the stereotypes that women are inferior to men. Today, discrimination is plaguing the entire world and one of its many forms is the gender wage gap. Back in 1950, just 7% of women between the ages of fourteen and seventeen attended school compared to the 12% of men. Almost fifty years later in 1998-99, the number of women in school increased dramatically. 84% of women now attend high schools compared to only 81% of men. In current time, Italian men and women 55-64 years old are nearly equal for a higher education; 11% of men this age have a university-level education compared to 10% of women the same age. The statistics for younger men and women are showing how women are making themselves for more educated than they used to be. Among the 25-34 year old population, one in four women have attained a higher education, while only one in six men have. This begins to show how women are making a better advance in education compared to men’s. This increase in education has led to an increase in female entrepreneurs, consumers, managers and investors. This will lead to dramatic increases of productivity in the economy; it is getting more money from successful men as well as successful women concerning consumerism. Entrepreneurs are also very important because of the fact that they are the people who create jobs to bring more money through an economy to keep it stable. Managers are a higher position of work that not many women have had, so with an increase in managerial positions, businesses can be run better, and therefore more money is going into
