One in particular scares Okonkwo within the story. The women perform the role of priestess, thus It is stated that during Okonkwo's boyhood, the priestess in those days was woman called Chika. Chika was a god full of power and was greatly feared among the members of the Ibo tribe. In the novel, there is no point where Okonkwo is seen as a pleader with any woman, whatever the reason. The fact that Okonkwo is threatened by a goddess to give her his daughter is enough to say that women have a priestess power that has allowed them to rule over men and make final decisions (UK). The role of women can be overlooked in any basic novel or society because of the need for men to be dominant and have the highest role in society. If we look at it from a non-siding viewpoint, we see that there is a balance. Without the men, there wouldn’t be order and there wouldn’t be a lot of safety or cultural needs. On the other hand, without the women and their roles, there wouldn’t be that great or education. Little education then equals little knowledge of religion or family rights. Without the women, there wouldn’t be the children to hold the rights and take part on the legacies of their fathers or ancestors before them.
