Women in America have had to fight hard for privileges they have today. They never should have had to struggle for those privileges. Before certain laws were passed in their favor, their lifestyles were very limited. Once they obtained those rights, they were able to prove why they deserved them all along. Now women make up over 47% of our workforce, and have secured high ranking and high profile jobs such as CEOs, congress members, doctors, and so much more. Women have had to stand up for their rights, but I believe our country is better as a result of this.
Before women secured their well-deserved rights, they were restricted in what they could do in everyday life. In many people’s eyes, women were expected …show more content…
They weren’t given the right to vote in elections, or have a say in laws in which they were forced to abide by as citizens, until 1920. The women that did find work were treated unfairly. They were denied equal employment and wages, as well as denied promotions due to the belief that the males were superior and better suited for the positions. Women then decided it was time for them to stand up for themselves and fight for their beliefs.
After years of this suffrage, women decided to take action. They organized conventions and protests to try and gain rights they had wanted for so long. When their journey started with the first convention being held in Seneca Falls, NY in July of 1848, they had no idea how long this process would take to complete, if it would ever be completed. Women can now expect the equal treatment they weren’t guaranteed, or even had the option, in the past thanks to fellow females before them who fought so hard for the laws. Women can go to any school, college, or educational institution and be guaranteed the same education as fellow male students. They can vote in any election or for any law being proposed, some of which may even be presented to Congress by a woman. Women have also been climbing corporate ladders and securing jobs as CEOs for major companies, doctors, lawyers, and any other job that a male could obtain. Having women represented equally in our country has rejuvenated our nation as a whole.
Women shouldn’t have had to fight for rights to begin with. I believe that the fight made us, as a country, recognize how great each and every individual is in his or her own way. Even though for the first almost 150 years this country existed, women like Susan
B. Anthony wouldn’t give up the fight to earn equal rights. Since acquiring equal rights, women have proven that they are just as capable as men in the workforce. Women have
definitely become a powerful force in this country and benefited from fighting for
