Wonder By R. J. Palacio
Most people know that you should be kind and courteous to others, and how it is not rocket science to do so. This is as simple as saying please and thank you, it can even be as small as saying hello to someone when their walking past, this can really lighten people’s moods and make their day. However, some tactless people can’t do this, they may even ruin somebody’s day. I strongly suggest that you don’t judge a book by its cover, don’t ignore people, use manners, ‘when choosing between being right and being kind, choose kind,’ that you don’t take part in any verbal or physical bullying and inform others about these simple pointers.
Have you ever had someone move to your school or neighbourhood who looks different to everyone else, do you treat them like you treat other people? Some people may be bullied or not have many friends because they look different, when in reality they may be really nice people. In the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, a kid by the name of August, who had a facial deformity, moved to Beecher Prep. August was not treated like everyone else even though he was a very nice person, for example, ‘Oh my god she shrieked, holding her hand over her eyes.’ This quote describes how August was mistreated during his time at school just because he looked

Recently, I was in a card game with experienced and inexperienced players. The experienced players would complain about little mistakes that the inexperienced players made and would rub in their faces that they had lost. This made the inexperienced players feel annoyed and frustrated. In the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, a main quote was ‘When choosing between being right and being kind, choose kind.’ This quote describes how you may know something that someone else doesn’t but saying it will result in hurting their feelings. I too believe that you should choose being kind over being right as I have experience of this situation

In the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, we, the readers, see parts of August’s life and how it changes through the eyes of his two friends. Summer, one of August’s friends, discusses how people always ask her why she hangs out with “the freak” so much, to which she replies, “[b]ecause he's a nice kid!”(Palacio 119). Although Summer treats August with respect, people still think of him like an alien, unable to see him as a normal human being with a facial defect. This demonstrates how Summer stands up for August, despite how he may look, just because she loves his personality and does not want him getting hurt by other heartless people. Another example of August being treated with disrespect and hate happens after science class when…

“Harrison Bergeron” is a short story that portrays an unflattering satirical depiction of a dystopian society in which everyone is equal. The short story emanates an acerbic tone towards equality and government control which is reflected by the emotions of the characters, conversations, and actions of characters, and the clothing or “handicaps” donned by the characters. The handicaps worn in “Harrison Bergeron” are meant to hinder the abilities of the gifted and level the playing field between them and average people, however, these handicaps harm and degrade their wearers to no obvious benefit. Hazel stated that she “Doesn’t care if we’re not equal for a bit” and it’s evident that George harbors a deep disdain for the handicaps.…
