The book’s focus is around a 12 year old girl named Melody. She is living with the disease Cerebral Palsy. She can’t walk, talk or feed herself. But the disease does not limit it her like everyone thinks it does. She has a photographic memory, and is a very intelligent individual. But she has no way to ever show any of this. Her disability stops her from communicating her emotions and thoughts, but it does not stop her from learning. Most of all this little girl is simply a girl. She worries what she looks like, and what other people say about her. Through her positive attitude, she is able to prove everyone wrong in the end.…
A joy, a challenge, and a puzzle to put together. The book I read was wonderstruck by Brian selznick. The book starts of with ben getting struck by lighting and losing all his hearing. The antagonist of the story for ben and Rose is external conflict because they each have some internal antagonist. Ben’s internal antagonist is his dead father because he cannot find him with all the clues he has because he doesn’t know he is dead.…
Comic books are loved by children, despite the lack of options they have on the market today. Comics aimed for children should be made about them, so they can relate to the story similar to the method used when writing scripts for TV shows and movies. With the electronics on the market today, comic books have to compete for the spot of entertainment in a child’s eyes.…

Mustang is an emotional juggernaut that through its simple story, and the best direction of the year makes for one of the most intense and heartbreaking experiences of the year. Freak the Mighty is a story about the power of a true friendship. Freak and Max are two boys who were so different, and yet had much in common with one another. Freak as well as Max both had limitations and this helped them to become friends. They both run into problems, but together they are "Freak the Mighty, slaying dragons, rescuing fair maidens, and walking high above the world.” There are differences between Freak and Max. Max is big and tall, a slow thinker, and runs away from his problems. Freak is small, smart, and tries very hard to be brave. There are similarities between the two boys, both have a disability, both do not known their dads, and both are in fear of something. In the story it shows how Max is afraid of joining life here on Earth and Freak is afraid of leaving life here on Earth. Max handles this fear by staying quiet and giving in to people when they bother him and Freak deals with his fear by convincing himself that he will be saved by receiving bionic body parts.…
My mind provides me with its own super-power: imagination. I can visualize stories of my own and translate them as words or pictures. The author of The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie, may arguably agree with my statement. Mr. Alexie presents a connection of literary understanding with visual images and imaginative thought. As an author, he now lies opposite of the language barrier that once obstructed him.…

Sherman Alexie’s, “Superman and Me” helped me remember how I developed my passion for reading as a child. From the moment I was able to read, I cherished this form of media. While other children my age viewed reading as a chore or a burden, I read for the endless possibilities it provided my imagination. Reading gives an individual the opportunity to learn new information, while creating new thoughts. My parents worked multiple jobs to provide my sisters and me with what they considered necessary for us. Given out circumstances, we found other means of entertainment. When we did not have luxuries such as cable, my sisters and I would have to find other ways to keep ourselves entertained. When we weren’t riding our bikes around the block, we would collect old books from our friends and…
Crazy Horse (Curly) was definitely a hero not only to his tribe but to many other people. Crazy Horse was groomed according to tribal customs. At this time, the Sioux prided themselves on the training and development of their sons and daughters, and they did not overlook a step in that development. Before he was 12, Curly had killed a buffalo and received his own horse. He witnessed the shooting of an old Sioux chief, Conquering Bear, by white soldiers on the Oregon trail. Seeing this dying chief set off everything in Crazy Horse’s head. He knew what he wanted to do. On August 19, 1854, he was in Conquering Bears’ camp in northern Wyoming when that Brulè leader was killed in the Grattan Massacre, a bloody dispute between Indians and soldiers over a butchered cow. The way of the warrior was a societal role…
This charming story reverses the typical roles within a children’s book. With underlying issues of stereotypes, independence and empowerment, it fills children with imagination and teaches them the importance of being strong, smart, and the realization that beauty comes from within.…
The most beautiful things in this world are not tangible, the things you can only feel with your heart, the ones unexplainable to the rest. The power to inflict emotions upon an audience with just a story is a power I have always wanted to possess. I love the great storytellers but never believed I could be more than a consumer. For my senior project I will be creating a children’s story book. I have always loved reading children’s books, even now in my teenage years. Don’t get me wrong, I like Catcher In The Rye and To Kill A Mockingbird as much as the next person, but there's something about a kids book that you just can’t get enough of. In a children’s book, you get to explore the whimsical made up worlds and characters that make you feel young again. Completely engaging yourself into that time or place when everything was easy with no worries.…
