Federal Reserve, and Federal Trade Commission. After one year into his presidency, The Great War or World War One started. Wilson did not want to get involved in the war and decided to stay out of it. Wilson was re-elected into office and started his second term. After many american ships were being blown up by German U-Boats (An early submarine). On April the Second, 1917 Woodrow Wilson proposed to congress that America should fight against the Germans, Central Powers. Congress accepted the proposal and America joined the fight in WW1. The war came to an end in 1918 and Germany signed a truce with America. The Paris Peace Conference was held, and The Treaty of Versailles was signed by Germany and other Allied forces. Congress did not agree with the treaty and it was never signed. But the war was not the only thing that happen, two amendments were ratified and put into practice. The two amendments were the 18th and 19th. The 18th amendment halted the sale, production, and transportation of alcohol. The other amendment ratified was the 19th, this amendment gave women the right to vote in elections, and as wilson states “a return to normalcy” (History.com). But something was not right, most communities were segregated (Whites and blacks). This was mostly due to the Governments looking at communities. Woodrow Wilson was considered to be a racist man, considering he kicked out many people Black people that were in government. This did not come well with the black community and they rallied and tried to stop this issue. The last topic I will adress is what Woodrow Wilson did after his presidency.
Wilson served for two terms or eight years. After he left the white house, him and and another man created a law firm in Washington DC. Wilson also lived in Washington D.C. so it was easy to get to his law firm. After his presidency, Wilson had very poor health which did not help him in the law firm. Wilson died in 1924, and he was the only president to be buried in the capital. Many people mourned his death, and everyone will remember what he did in
office. To conclude, Woodrow Wilson served for two terms and did many thing in that time period.Wilson helped end World War 1, and approved two new amendments. Woodrow Wilson might have been racist but that will not take away from what he achieved for the greater good. Wilson also helped ratify three new acts, that are still used today like the federal reserve. Wilson’s legacy and achievements will always remember even if they were not the best ones. Woodrow Wilson will always be remembered as an influential and revolutionary president of the United States of America.
