Work Hard Now Pays Off Later in Life
James Wilder Harroway English 1113 8 February 2013 Work hard now pays off later in life I believe that working hard now pays off later in life. I have always believed this statement ever since I got my first job. My father always told me the real world would kick my butt, but I never believed him until now. I used to work for an ice company in Batesville called Cube Ice. It was very hard work but the pay was good. The company took out money to go towards my retirement and out for taxes. My grandfather told me from experience that the money that they take out for retirement helps out later on in life. So, I started working harder and harder to ensure that I will have an easy and laid back future. I do believe that working hard now will pay off later on in life. My father started a steady job when he was 15 years old. He is now 41 years old and still working there. He told me that he will work all day as long as when he retires he won’t have to. My father will retire when he turns 65. He told me he is looking forward to retirement more than anything. He works his butt off every day to provide for his family. My grandfather is 65 years old and is still working. He told me he would not stop working until he has to. He has been working all his life. He had to drop out of 5th grade to go and work for his father at welding. I believe that it is time for him to retire and take a break. He told me that he believes retirement would be good for him, but he just can’t retire yet. He said as long as he is able to work, he will. He told my dad and me that if we ever feel like we need to stop working then to work harder. My grandpa gives me a lot of great advice, and I believe everything he tells me. I’m 19 years old and he told me that working is hard now but, it sure helps out a lot when you get older. I told him that I’m not going to stop working until I retire, because I need to provide help for my family and myself.

People are becoming more and more desperate to grab a job when they can in this crippling economy. My grandparents, whom I will call Deen and Cindy, are still working the same jobs that they’ve had since their mid 30’s. Cindy was able to obtain work as an accountant for Kalama Exports. Five days a week, she works the same schedule, from six in the morning until five in the afternoon. While she might just be getting home, Deen is already gone to his job as a security guard for a retirement home. His job requires him to work from three in the afternoon until midnight, leaving him tired and worn out when he arrives home at about one in the morning the next day.…

In the summer of 1855 a mentally ill woman moves into a secluded estate with her husband. She immediately voices her concerns about the eerie feeling she gets in the house and how much she hates the yellow wallpaper, but like always, her husband disregards her concerns and insists that he knows best because he is a doctor. She also believes that she was born to be a writer, but her husband forbids her from writing or communicating with other people and insists that she stay in bed to rest. Much like a prisoner in solitary confinement, the narrator starts to lose her mind. She begins to fixate her entire life on the wallpaper while she spends her days in bed. She started keeping a journal which he hid from her family, and in it, she writes about how she ‘discovered’ a creeping woman trapped behind the pattern. She centers her life on freeing this woman by locking the door and attempting to tear off all of the wallpaper. When her husband comes home from work, he breaks down the door, sees the mess, and faints. Then the woman crawls out of the room and the story seems to be over, but there has got to be more. This woman is not simply your Martha Stewart of the 1800s that doesn’t like her bedroom wallpaper. The job of the reader is to break down the roles of each character, analyze the major symbols, evaluate the theme and use them like the pieces of a puzzle to understand what the author, Charlotte Perkins Stetson, was trying to say.…

Many older people continue working in various ways well past when most others retire. And if you can think of an example of someone who can't, then you have meet 1 but I assure you that there are millions out there that can. Personally I really admire them. I have seen people on their 70 still working, doing their groceries, driving, cooking, going to the gym, running errands, taking care of their house, in general living a great active life like any other person does. Here in Austin we do have tons of examples of this. For us to be witnesses all we have to do is to visit our farmers markets, parks and local events to see old this older people full of life and energy. I am a true believer in the reason for younger people to have this misconception of our elders is due to the social disconnection that we have today. In today’s world not many people take time to be with our elderly. Maybe if we spend more time with them we will notice that they are not helpless just because of their age. They just learned to think differently than we do and to do their thing differently than how we do…

The American Dream embodies this quote, and I agree with it. Who does not? As my former principal at the Florence Freshman Center used to say, “Hard work pays off!” Because of my own past experiences, I can attest to his saying. Since its founding, America has been the land of opportunity, and thousands of people have stormed to the country to better their lives. Even if the majority of them did not become wealthy, the country still held onto the sentiment, and it exists today. Nowadays though, many other countries around the world offer better opportunities for people, but foreigners still want to come to America. I believe that this ideal has helped the people everywhere to work harder and push for a better tomorrow. This ideal takes the determination in all of us and pushes it to the forefront. Once we embrace the idea that hard work eventually pays off, I believe that this is the catalyst for…

Fortunately, by the fifth grade my parents were able to rent an apartment nearby our school and had found jobs in multiple Brownsville restaurants. After the move, things became much easier and we were able to have a much simpler life, though we were never able to forget the hardships we experienced and the effort we put into enhancing our lives. Today, I am sure my successes as of now are gratifying my parents as I am in the top 10% of my class, the Co-Captain of the Golden Stars Dance Team, member of the National Honor Society, Piano Club, HOSA, and in TRIO UTRGV talent search program. I attend rigorous AP classes to improve my opportunity to attend a university and have the finest future I can give myself. Although my triumphs may not look like much to most, I can assertively say that the trial of going through difficulty to have a superior future has been overcome with the comfort of focus, strength, and the right set of mind to build a better tomorrow for my family and…

In addition, to committing my time to school I have…

I have to keep my job and where it is at though I have an apartment and bills to pay for. That's what driving me to go to college though I'm working at a dead end barely over minimum wage job , forty hours a week for a barely three hundred dollar check. So when the homework piles up before work I will do anything in my power to have that done before I go to work every time I clock in it gives me incentive to not do this job my whole live and have the same set raise for however much effort you put in. Another incentive is I don’t want my son to think he can just not get an education and have that same dead end job that everyone will have in their life, it did take a little push and awakening but when I make a decision I stick to the choice that I'm satisfied…

As a child I grew up in a poor household. Through the years my father struggled to pay the bills and we were living from month to month. I remember one time he came home and he was ecstatic because he made $100 that week. He worked around the clock to make ends meet. He would do any kind of side job whether it was buffing floors at his church or fixing friends cars. At the age of 13 my dad starting hitting the books and studying for his Real Estate exam. He bought the books and studied by himself for about a month before he scheduled his test. Once he became a Realtor he worked around the clock to get his name in the market. As a family we went from lower class to middle class because my father made the decision to do better. His focus was unparalleled, and once he made the decision to become successful, there was no stopping him.…

When I was younger, everything was handed to me. Well, not everything but most of what I wanted or thought I needed like new clothes, toys, the latest electronics things that cost money. When the economy started to crash thing had to change around my house. My mother lost her job and my dad’s pay was cut short plus on top of that he was sick for 8 months with a type of liver disease. We had to cut down on how much money we spent especially on the wants compared to our needs. With our financial struggle I had to learn how to live with the things that I already had and not want what other people had. Having my first job as a snow cone maker I also had to learn that you have to work for the things you want in life. Nothing in life is just handed to you, you have to earn it.…
