The prison population is illustrated in the Official Government Statistics. Nearly three-quarters of prisoners were in receipt of benefits immediately before entering prison. This displays that lower classes such as under class and working class are more likely to commit a crime. This can be explained by Millers study of working class males. Millers said that this anti social behaviour is just an extreme development of normal, working class male values. He says that these working class males have six ‘focal concerns’ which lead to deviance; trouble, toughness, smartness, excitement, fate and autonomy. They claim that they don’t look for trouble it just finds them while being physically strong…
Work was a very common thing for inmates of early prisons, and it is also a common thing even in today’s world. Although the type of work has differed throughout the centuries whether it be manual labor, or making license plates the fact is that work has been a major factor in prisons throughout their existence. In the beginning of prisons existing, the main type of work was manual labor, such as breaking up rocks, or even cleaning up the sides of roads inmates were made to do anything and everything the prisons saw fitting. The inmates that were a part of the early prisons during the 18th century were made to do work such as breaking up rocks in the yard and doing other very simple but extremely harsh on the body tasks. The main reason the inmates did this type of work was because they were not able to eat unless they agreed to do the work that the prisons were asking of the inmates. (Hill, D. 2004) It was either break up rocks in the yard or sit in your cell all day and never get fed.…

While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent statement calling my present activities "unwise and untimely." Seldom do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticisms that cross my desk, my secretaries would have little time for anything other than such correspondence in the course of the day, and I would have no time for constructive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms.…

Private companies and prisons aren’t the only ones benefiting from prison labor. According to Pete Waters, the warden of the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown, MD, giving the inmates jobs and keeping them active makes the prison run much smoother. “Keeping inmates busy helps us internally to manage the institution a lot better. Idle time is not a good thing in prison.”(Korch) Many sources attribute well-behaved inmates with active inmates, and prison labor is one way of keeping prisoners active. Even inmates appear to believe that the work is beneficial. Mark Rowley, an inmate, says, “Really it's [prison labor] benefiting us. It gives us an opportunity to gain those skills that are going to be necessary when you get out of here.” (qtd. in Korch)…
It is important that you work in partnership with all of the people surrounding the individuals that you are supporting, in order to ensure the best possible support and care are provided. This will include Carers, Families, Advocates and other people who are sometimes called “Significant Others”. In order to work well in partnership, there has to be good communication therefore you will need to have good communication skills. Other people may be able to provide useful information to support you in your work, and you may be able to find useful information to support them in being part of the individual’s life. An example might be if there are communication difficulties. A Carer or Family member can share information on how you can communicate efficiently with the individual. Therefore this enables the individual to be listened to and supported in ways that they desire and choose.…
Incarceration can have multiple profound effects on a person. While the goal of incarceration is to rehabilitate the person to follow laws, the result is often isolation and loss of valuable resources that a person needs to maintain a positive role outside the prison system. Many people are affected by the incarceration of a person, from the family, to the community and employers, to society in general. Here is a brief look at some of those affected by a person's incarceration.…
In order to obtain the totality of the concept of “The Retributive Theory vs Prison Labor”, it is important to first take a magnifying glass to the intricacies of law versus moral. In every way possible, it appears that prion labor is no longer a means of allowing the offender to repay their debt to society, but in fact, a form of modern day slavery. The “prison industry” is a well-oiled machine, much like the military; constantly recruiting. As the less fortunate commit petty crimes, they are incarcerated and forced to do labor in which they are not paid for, with the belief that it is a chance to alleviate the impact of their crime. Their labor is often for the city/municipality in the form of janitorial work at government owned…
Bi - Firstly my employer expects me to attend all training, supervisions and meetings, and also to follow the policies and procedures that the home has set up. Some standard procedures set in place include ‘whistle blowing’. Staff with serious concerns about any aspect of the organisation or the work force will be supported in sharing those concerns and will be protected from reprisal or victimisation. The incident should be discussed in the first incidence with the manager or if this is not reasonably possible it should be discussed with John’s parents. This complaint should be recorded in writing and signed as a true record by both parties.…
The criminal justice system sentences people to prison for various felonious crimes they have admitted to or have been found guilty of. A prison sentence is punishment for those types of crimes. However, for some, a prison sentence in today’s world is nothing more than a vacation from reality. State and Federal Prisons have turned into a recreation hall and free pass from hard labor. Prisons should implement the punishments they were intended for, and that being isolation and hard labor.…
