Work life conflict
Introduction: in this era of globalization individuals are surrounded by a huge burden of work and responsibilities within and outside their work place. It is a very challenging task to manage the balance between work and routine life activities. The individuals who fail to maintain this balance become the victim of work life conflict leading toward its disastrous impacts on individual’s personality. According to Edwards and Roth bard (2000) “Work-life conflict could be defined as the conflict between roles of work and family life, it happens when the individual would have to withdraw from the demands of one role for fulfilling the demands of other role.”
Reasons of work life conflict: According to a study conducted by DR. Dr. Chris Higgins and Dr. Linda Duxbury (2001), there are 4 reasons of work life conflict. First one is “work overload”. Due to huge amount of work individuals feel burdened and stressed. The stress decreases their work efficiency and their limited mental approach does not let them to give proper attention to the personal life. Secondly work life conflict is created by “work to family interference”. That results when the work requirements make it difficult for the employer to fulfill the demands of personal life. Thirdly work life conflict is created by “family to work interference”. It results when the family life demands make it difficult to fulfill the work demands. The last one is “caregiver strain” that causes conflict between work and life.
