This is when one is motivated by internal factors such as doing something for the fun of it or because one feels it is the right thing to do.
Extrinsic Motivation

This is when one is motivated by external factors such as tangible rewards or pressure.

INTRINSIC
Engaging in behaviors because they are personally enjoyable or fun.
EXTRINSIC
Engaging in an activity to earn a reward or avoid negative consequences. • Solving a puzzle because it is challenging.
• Cleaning your room to not get in trouble.
• Playing a sport because its fun. • Playing a sport to win an award. • Playing a game because you find it exciting.
• Competing in a contest to win a scholarship.

• Emerges spontaneously out of people’s psychological needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness.
• If it is nurtured it contributes to the developing of better conceptual understanding, creativity, persistence and subjective well-being.
Outline the relationship between intrinsic motivation and the quality of work produced. Provide an example that illustrates this relationship.
• This motivation comes from inside a person and produces the drive of the person.
• People produce a better quality of work when they are inspired.
