This is my response to a QCS(Queensland Core Skills) test. When we walked into the test room we had no idea what we were supposed to write about. We were give the theme of ‘Time’, for which we were given a stimulus sheet and 2 hours to write whatever we could. I came up with this.
These days, most of us spend three quarters of our lives, working. And what is all of this work for? To save money so that when we retire, and were old and crippled, we can enjoy our tea and biscuits while sitting in our big comfortable chair that our superannuation bought us?
Now, let me ask you, is it really worth it? Is it really worth wasting so much of our time, so much of our lives, all so we can be comfortable when were old? I think not, I think i would much rather work to live, not live to work. Because what is the point in spending most of your life doing the same thing day in, day out? I know I would like to LIVE my life, my whole life. I’d like to spend my time enjoying my stay on this beautiful earth. Because after all, our stay here is so short, and often cut even shorter.
One of my favourite quotes is “we cannot save time. We are forced to spend it at a fixed rate of 60 seconds every minute. In work time is money. How should we manage this irretrievable resource? How should we fill our days?” Reading this really helps you to grasp the idea that our time on this planet is short. So, we should make the best to enjoy it. Now, let me ask you, are you really enjoying your life, sitting there at that desk, driving that truck day after day?
Okay, so I’m not saying we should all just quit work and go out on a safari, or jump out of a plane. But, I am saying that is this day and age, too many of us are working too hard. We need to put down that Parker, get off that laptop and live a little. There is no point in wasting your time, your life. Because when you’re done with work you will be too old to really enjoy life. You will
