When the author said that, “McDonalds is bad for your kids”, we can see that he meant about how the student working at McDonalds will affect student life because working there won’t help student learn much (Etzioni 249). The truth is Etzioni only use what he had learned or head, but not in-depth to the detail very much about why it is bad for the kids (pg. 249). Many of the student do know what it’s good for themselves even though they are young but they know what it is good or not. Yet, working while in high school is nothing wrong when a student knows how to balance their work time and school time well. Etzioni states that, “It has been a longstanding American tradition that youngsters ought to get paying jobs” (pg. 249). It is true that in the past, many youngsters went out to find a job as it a bloodline that is has to be flowing in cycle for centuries. However, we are in the twenty- first century where everyone makes their own decision, where is best fit for their own goods. Student go to school to learn only base on the old materials and where many professional had done in the past and wrote it in the book for students to read, but students have their own learning styles which they have to see it, hear it, and do it. Working is other ways for students to utilize their time wisely because this shows how to use their time doing something great for themselves and for others. Etzioni mentions that, “What does it matter if you spend 20 minutes to learn to use a cash register, and then—“operate” it?”(pg. 250) He sees this as a waste of time for the student to work instead of go to school to study. For sure that, if you go to a workplace you have to learn how to do the stuff that you never don’t it before so you can get a hang of it. As for a student to work in the fast food place doesn’t mean that is bad for them, to put it in a way it show how they can improve this opportunities step by step. This is the tools where many students can learn and use it to help themselves to get jobs in near future. Besides, the author claim that, “It is a long way from learning to work with a lathe or carpenter tools in the olden days or to program computers in the modern age” (250).
