WORKING STATEMENT
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this past year, it’s that suddenly and unexpectedly, life can hit you. It can hit you hard. Often, I’d find myself weighing my doubts, my willingness to succeed, but as the window to salvage my semester began to close I saw but 2 options: Lay down and accept it, or push forward towards success. The choice was clear.

My ability to adapt and stay calm during times of struggle has greatly aided my return to an active student life. Using only a relentless worth ethic, I was able to pull myself out of the hole I had grown accustomed to all the while, maintaining a recently obtained full time job. Not only had I been living in defeat, I had accepted it, nurtured it. I felt as though it was time for a change and I dove head first into a mounting sea of work. For as long as I can remember, my procrastination and irresponsible ethics have done nothing but drag me down. I have discovered the importance of time management, as it is crucial to the completion and quality of my assignments and future work.

The path back to success has been all but an easy one. I have yet to overcome my inability to effectively use criticism and have again yet to hone the skill of being open minded to the ideas of others in-group work. The input of clients and peers is absolutely crucial to having a successful product. Any idea, sketch or mock-up is helpful towards building a product that both the buyer and the seller can be absolutely proud of.

Learning is essential. The field of graphic design is always evolving, growing and adapting with time. Staying relevant to current trends is the key to being successful. I believe my ability to absorb and innovate current and past works will greatly help in securing my future as a leader and as an inspiration to aspiring graphic designers.

I realize there ia still a lot of room for improvement and plenty of new things to learn, and I firmly believe by sharpening my skillset and continuing my studies,

Most teenagers would have given up here as the disappointment from both their parents and teachers would have destroyed their hopes for a successful future. Throughout this semester many things have been new experiences for the entire class. Some met new interesting people on the other hand some people learned new experiences that will be used throughout the rest of this next semester. Whether it was watching a video on the computer or reading through the Bedford book, many new techniques were learned, as well as new information being learned. Some day’s everything may have not been all together but everything still managed to work out for the entire class, or the one’s that stuck it out through “craziness” of being a new student or having a new teacher. This “craziness was definitely well worth it now that the semester is over and the new semester is approaching.…

When I have a load of work to do, I manage my time efficiently by sitting down, playing music, with no distractions, and get work done before the assignment’s due date. As soon as I receive a task, whether it be due in a month or the next week, I write it down in my planner, phone, and computer to remind myself to complete my homework. I conferred with loved ones and I accepted my circumstances. It was time to begin anew, and I dedicated the last year to finishing my degree and realizing my purpose. As an English major, I was always passionate about writing, reading, manifesting new interpretations and expressing ideas. I could pinpoint details and construct an entirely new implication. Everything has an underlying meaning that is awaiting to be understood, and life presents us with specific points of reference; and our responsibility is to grasp its…

“Life starts at the end of your comfort zone.” Is a quote I have constantly told others, encouraging them to step out of their safety zones and to experience life. But I truly did not understand the meaning of that quote until I stepped foot into Delta Hall in January. I had heard about the Washington Semester Program when I came to tour UGA my senior year of high school and I knew instantly that it was something I wanted to participate in. Since freshmen year I patiently waited until I could finally apply to the program and then before I knew it I was actually in Delta Hall, starting the program. I was out of my comfort zone, in a completely new city, away from friends and family – living with 31 strangers for an entire semester and there was no turning back. Looking back on this semester, I cannot believe how life changing it…

We learn from our mistakes all the time, sometimes we regret them other ties we don’t. One time I had the chance to have the world in my hands, but I ended up in a hole I couldn’t get out of. I had all the resources right there but never took it seriously. In school I wasn’t always the best top 4.0 student, but I maintained good grades. However, high school came I took everything for granted. I always had the impression of “It’s going to be easy” or you can make it later in the run.” You can’t have second chances for everything. At the end of the day it is all me and I have to be the one going through college.…

This experience allowed me to realize exactly which skills I possess and which I am the best at expressing, teaching me a lot about myself but also about what I would like to improve on. This is where the “unwritten curriculum” of university becomes extremely important, as it has already allowed me to build on many skills which I had struggled with previously; skills such as time-management, focus, independence and abstract thinking. All qualities which seem relatively simple, yet without constant practice are not as easily remembered. Looking at time-management; “the total TMB [time management behaviour] was found to be significantly correlated with role ambiguity, somatic tension, job and life satisfaction, self-related performance and GPA.”1 This finding, although seems relatively straight forward allows for students such as myself to understand that the skill of time-management has many positive effects in ones life; academically and…

Everyone in life will have their own personal obstacles they will have to face in life. Some people will mentally shut down and give up when faced with a challenge. Others will take their challenges and use them to better themselves. The obstacles that I have faced in my life have never hit me harder than they have these past few months. This being my senior year, I always expected it to be the most laid back and relaxing year of my high school career. When in fact I set myself up for one of the biggest challenges of my life so far, by signing up for multiple online college classes, helping out with activities all over the school, and playing football for the first time since freshman year. Although, under all this immense pressure, this is where my true colors came out. I didn’t stop working to my full potential,…

I often feel overloaded and overwhelmed by the expectations of my role. I question my efficiency versus being overloaded. Not withstanding the slightest chance of the former to a person who has ranked competency and ambition highly among the instrumental values from Rokeach (1973), I know I need to improve on my time management skills. This has also been suggested by Calopio (2005) who advises that with a rating below 80, I should be trained in…

In life, there are periods of transition in which individuals often face daunting challenges or obstacles. Overcoming these challenges at pivotal points of transition can impel the individual to develop essential character qualities and skills for surmounting adversity. My transition into high school was momentous. Here I knew that the decisions I made would likely have a strong impact on my future. Therefore, I had to be meticulous about the extracurricular activities I wanted to be involved in. This mindset allowed me to stay focused and determined because I wasn't focused on going to the next party or the new music that was out. I cared solely about the legacy I left behind. That is why I decided to run for student government at the end…
