Intro to Theatre
Working the musical

Working, the musical, portrays the struggles that many workers have to deal with in a capitalistic society. The musical attempts to show it’s viewers that all people, no matter if they make minimum wage or two hundred thousand dollars a year, have made significant contributions to their society. The City College rendition of Working does a great job of conveying the message that this play attempts to send. They do this by having phenomenal acting, great costumes, and outstanding music.

The acting was terrific in this play, I was amazed by how all the characters were not just able to stay in their roles, but those who played different roles were able to fluidly transition from one role to the other. In particular, I was captivated by the actor who played the old man watching the fire, not only was he hilarious, he also depicts the life of an old retired person very well. The fact that a man is so perplexed by just a fire shows

Seeing the four people actually playing the music behind us made it seem a lot more like a musical, because if we didn’t see them, we would assume that the tunes were just recorded and it makes it feel less original, the four of them did a great job. The actors on the other hand could have done a better job, It seemed that when they sang in chorus is was really nice and I would be able to understand everything, but some singers would sign solo and it would be very hard to understand what was being said. I thought that the choreography was sensational, every character knew where they were and they were completely in sync. I came in a state of confusion as I had never seen a musical before, and I wasn’t sure how a story would be told through music, however this play does a satisfying job in using the music to show how the progression of the

My overall reaction and view of the play is that I was very impressed. I have not seen a play with more action and liveliness with such a small group of roles in a rather long time. The connection between royalty, and a con man, as he slips into the cracks and seems of reality and an overall search of competence in a family setting is very intense in accordance to the time line set in the play. I felt like I was with the actors, on their spiritual journey, as they portray their roles so finely. I felt an extreme presence of finite maturity in the actors, and I feel as if that has a lasting impact, compared to mediocre actors, in which I’ve seen in this theatre before. The all black cast was so…

All the elements in the show went perfectly with the actors, the sets, and the lighting. The whole stage was used and the performers moved around throughout the entire stage. The pace of the production seemed to be right. I thought it might have dragged out a little but picked up in the secound act.…

They play was quite an interesting play with its use of comedy and tragedy. The actors did a terrific job on portraying the characters. The set was small so it was much easier to see their reactions. The introduction to the play was pretty unique with those people in tight pants and glitter all over everybody in the lobby. They never broke character no matter what went on in the lobby. Later they used as prompts on stage which was pretty interesting because at times I was so into the play I forgot they were there acting as a car or a door.…

There were some things that I didn’t like about the play. One of the characters portrayed a rebellious girl who wore dark clothes and heavy makeup. She was the one who was hooking up with the professor and her friend. She kept blinking her eyes too much and moving her head to try to look as if she was being seductive. I understand that in order to portray a seductive character some of those gestures would work well. I think the actor over did it, and I found it distracting to watch her keep doing the robotic gestures even when…

I noticed when entering the theatre that there were small, blue lights hanging off the ceiling and the stage was in the shaped of a hexagon, the resembled a honeycomb. I think it was pretty cool how the actors were still able to perform on the stage even though there was objects all over the floor. Being able to talk to the actors after the play, I was able to learn that they way the stage was set up in a certain way, where ever a black garbage bag was that meant the prop was nearby. I think having those clues to find a prop was a very smart idea, it definitely helped make the play run smoothly. Not only did the set fit the play but the music fit very well. They had only three people running all the sound and music, I find that amazing because the sound fit this play perfectly.…

In Coldplay’s “Violet Hill,” an anti-war theme unfolds along with opposition of political and social issues. From a relatively obvious perspective of a soldier to subtle remarks regarding modern media, Coldplay pieces together a protest song that steadily speaks out against the flaws of the American government. Quite similarly to Green Day’s “American Idiot,” the concept of a nation being persuaded by mass media and entertainment is heavily focused on. Coldplay effectively attacks the imperfections and controversies of the American government through their protest song “Violet Hill,” while providing lyrics that are relevant to the majority of Americans.…

types of seventh chords are found in pop, jazz, blues, and R&B music. Jazz musicians also improvise over a harmonic progression, known as changes which are a series of chords played in a strict rhythmic sequence. Composers also arrange triads into patterns called progressions. At the main points in the melody, the triads give the song a sense of forward movement ("progression"). Composers traditionally wrote progressions using only three or four different triads. However the jazz musicians of the "Bebop Era" revolutionized music by creating progressions that used as many as seven different chords. Hence, modern music takes its fundamentals from jazz and uses various progressions of four to five different chords. Modern day music has adopted…

The actors really kept me entertained. They did a great job in staying in character throughout the play. The actors were also very well dressed for their characters. For example, the mayor of the town Anton Antonovich was constantly anxious and concerned for the unexpected visit had the shown the right face gestures for every scene. The two stooges, Bobchinsky and Dobchinsky, were very funny too, making several comedic acts. So was the supposed inspector Khlestakov, who also to had me laughing over how he to the bribes from everyone in the whole town and going along with the lie. His servant Osip also made constant sarcastic jokes about his master who was fooling everyone in the town and was a total bum, seriously had me dying of laughter. In general, the performance of the play was exceptional for everyone to understand. I would recommend this play for everyone to…
