There are positive and negative aspects in how you conduct yourself in your work environment. By practicing positive professionalism, not only are you setting a good example of yourselves, but you’re also creating a positive work environment. To give “unsolicited criticism, unfair treatment, isolation, humiliation” (Carden 2013), is not professional and creates tension among coworkers, which leads to more risks of unprofessional bullying behaviors. By containing and fixing any problem areas, it’s a step towards eradicating “unhealthy and unprofessional behaviors that jeopardize the quality and delivery of patient care” (Knudson, 2014). To make positive changes, there are times when education on appropriate professional behavior is recommended. It’s not about trying to hide the fact that issues have arisen, but rather making sure that it is being addressed. If not, the unwanted behavior can persist and be seen as okay to continue. The steps that can be taken to manage are “identification, response planning, and monitoring and controlling” (Carden, 2013). To identify is to understand the issue at hand. Response planning is some tools to help with those who feel like they are being bullied. Lastly, monitor and control are when the plan in implanted and should be carefully overseen to make sure no further issues
