The current challenges facing United Way were raising money to pay for general operational cost, recruiting and keeping fundraisers, and when celebrities donate large amount discourage others that may not be able to afford to give that much charity. Another challenge United Way was facing was that people who donated wanted to know where or what their money were used for. This opposed a challenge because United Way were not a charity that had one single focus like those that focused their attentions on one disaster, for example, 9/11 or Katrina. Key issues in the general and non-profit charitable giving industry environments that affect United Way’s operations are that trends have taken place where donations have declined over the years. Charities have fallen by 11 percent and represent the worst declined in 20 years.…

Throughout this semester, we have delved into the history of the civilizations that have inhabited the world spanning from 1453 to present day. Whether vicariously from the perspective of a person from that time period through a primary document, or by means of explanation by author Robert W. Strayer and in-class discussions, we have taken an in-depth look at various issues and events over the course of history. Although each event was significant on some scale, certain events had long lasting effects that could still be felt throughout the world today. Each country throughout history had their “moment in the sun” where they experienced power and global recognition. However, one country who has their footprint over most of history was…

Many people believe that success has a direct correlation to one’s intelligence, ambition, and personality traits, but in fact, those are not what someone successful. As described by Malcolm Gladwell in the book Outliers, the successful become that way as a result of many factors that come their way. Gladwell shows that surrounds the successful are their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experience of their upbringing. Malcolm Gladwell’s theory of success is correct because success not only need to intelligence and hard-working, and also social environment and opportunity as same as important.…

Countless times I wished to be face to face with the child or group I was indirectly supporting through monetary donations or through volunteer work and somehow provide them with more than just a temporary solution to their lifelong dilemma. I believe that the only true solution is to educate and provide them the means of which to construct a maintainable lifestyle without the constant support of others. In a perfect world, organizations such as American Red cross, Unicef, the Salvation Army, and every other organization that relies on donations would not exist and we’d simply live a life in which we primarily depend on ourselves. Simply because something seems unattainable or beyond our grasp doesn't mean we shouldn’t at least strive for it and that is exactly what my continued volunteer work will aim to do: work towards a perfect world. This idea reminds me of a commonly used expression by Norman Vincent Peal: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the…

During the late 1600s and the to the mid-1700s, countries fought for land and power in order to have global domination. While several countries fought for the same cause, resolving their diffrerences was nearly impossible, and this often led to more wars and conflicts. One of the many conflicts concerned the domination of North America. While many European powers competed for control of North America, Britain gained the most territory through the four French and Indian wars, King William's War, Queen Anne's War, King George's War, and the French and Indian War. As these wars progressed, Britain achieved the most success and eventually became the most dominant power in North America.…
