World War 1: Remembering the War to End All Wars
My name is Katherine and I am going to write to you about what my family went through during World War 1. The war began on July 28, 1914 and lasted until November 11, 1918. My family was very scared. My dad served as a soldier and unfortunately lost his life while trying to save our country. I miss him so much as day pass but I know he was a good man and that he wanted me to be someone big in life. My father was the most hardworking man you would ever meet. My dad’s name was Joseph Martin. My father was my biggest inspiration and he will continue to be. I was closer to my father than anyone else in my family. The opposing sides were Germany, Austria, and Italy, who were known as “The Triple Alliance.” Great Britain, France, and Russia, who were known as “The Triple Entente.” War happened because of many different events that took place in years that built up to 1914. Many families were lost. The soldiers used many different new guns. My dad made bombs and he was in a tank too. We talked to his best friend named William A. Thomas. He experienced how my dad died. He told us he was attacking in a tank and then you immediately saw the opposing side toss a huge bomb at it. All you see is fire. My dad was laying on the floor with parts missing and was all burnt up. I instantly began to cry. He had passed away in such a brutal way. I didn’t get to say goodbye or tell him that I loved him. I didn’t get to hug him for the last time. It breaks my heart that he had to leave us at such a young age. I know he is watching over me. Watching me write this. I miss you dad. It was a hard war. The United States began to help and their help was much helpful and needed. As they all united together, they only became stronger. More people with different skills came. We had won. This war ended all wars and problems. Many people died. I thank all those who served for
