World War 2 Propaganda Analysis
An important part of any war that has nothing to do with battle is the people’s support. If the citizens do not want to win the war, the country will not win the war. So, to gain followers of their cause, the government will use propaganda and other methods of psychological manipulation. Propaganda was especially used by all countries involved in World War Two. A great many different kinds of propaganda were used, but arguably the most effective was film. Not only did the use of film help the war effort, but it also helped the film industry, especially animation, gain a leg up in society. War is a time for technological and societal advancement, and film is no exception. Prior to the war, animation was seen as something only meant for children. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the U.S. army contacted Walt Disney to begin work on several propaganda cartoons. These films still utilized the satirical nature of cartoons, but for a more serious topic. Notable animations including famous characters were “Bugs Bunny Bond Rally”, “Foney Fables”, and “Scrap Happy Daffy”. …show more content…

The purpose of the film was to portray life in Germany as it actually was. Hitler described it in his speeches as the greatest country in the world, a paradise for the people he deemed worthy. In this particular presidential campaign poster in 1916, the type of propaganda is glittering generalization. It is using language associated with values and beliefs deeply held by the audience without providing supporting information or reason. I do not agree with the message because, even though President Wilson tried to keep the United States neutral during WWI, however he ultimately called on congress to declare war on Germany in 1917. It is not effective because, one year later after it was made a war was declared.…

One specific type of propaganda used by the Nazis in WWII was the propaganda “fear”. The Nazis used this to persuade the Germans and everyone else if they don’t get rid of the jews no they will overpower and eventually destroy what they had accomplished. The Nazis would use “fear” by making posters, books, speeches, etc. saying if they don’t eliminate the jews the jews would eliminate them. The United States used the propaganda “fear” as well by claiming if they did not lock away the Japanese-Americans we would all be killed because they were “spies”. Literature can be an extremely powerful tool of persuasion. One man with one idea has the potential to influence hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people through writing. In fact, one particularly influential piece of literature convinced an entire population of people to ostracize, shun, and even murder their fellow citizens. Compelling texts such as Hitler’s Mein kampf allow me to believe that literature could be considered propaganda. These pieces of literature, when written to pacify a specific audience, can strongly appeal to humanity’s “passions”, as Plato suggests. I believe that authors use literature as a vehicle to demonstrate their personal beliefs and influence their audience to share those beliefs.…

Even though the outcome of World War II was influenced by the technology utilized by the nations participating in the war, the outcome was also dependent on a manipulative form of information. That manipulative form of information is also known as “propaganda.” During World War II, propaganda was used to effectively: demoralize enemies, spread news, increase country morale, and indoctrinate civilians. Thanks to the use of propaganda, the outcome of the world favored the Allied Powers, but it also affected the core values of societies during and after World War II. World War II propaganda caused the populations of Japan, United States, Great Britain, Germany, and the Soviet Union to change their core value from “treating people ethically and…

During World War II, propaganda was used to increase support for the war. It lent out a huge helping hand to the ones who used it- mainly Germany. Propaganda spewed up hatred for the opposing side, and made the side who was using it seem superiorly greater. With that being said, propaganda gave a lot of “hype”, if one will, to Germany. Joseph Goebbels had been put in charge of propaganda in Germany soon after Hitler took power.…

The British Government used propaganda as a very powerful tool. “In the early decades of the 20th century that the use of propaganda in war became both as widespread and as significant as we see it today” (Propaganda in World War 1) Propaganda today is more about advertising. British Propaganda during the war was different because it connected with people’s emotion. “World War I has been described as the first “Total War,” a term that describes both the industrialization of warfare and the ability of new weapons to reach far beyond conventional battlefields” ( Propaganda in World War 1) Propaganda caused the war have many turning points in the war. .During the war they used propaganda to attack the emotional parts of people to stir up their emotions. They used recruitment propaganda that directly targeted the emotions of the people. Most of the propaganda used this way was for the women to force their husbands, sons, fathers, and brothers to join the war. They also used propaganda to help with mass production. “In Britain, it was estimated that 40 million items were manufactured for overseas use during 10 months in 1917 alone” ( Propaganda in World War 1). “In the years following the end of the war, the propaganda produced by Britain was seen as particularly effective, and influenced attitudes across the world” (Propaganda in World War…

I think animated propaganda was more effective during its time because not many had a TV to tune into what was going on. Instead they went to the local theaters and watched the animated films that were being produced. In the animated films they were able to exaggerate the depiction of who they were portraying like leaders of countries, too depictions of ethnic and racial that by today’s standards would not be tolerated. Because it was wartime it was acceptable to show the enemy as abrasive and stupid to even incompetent. I think another reason it was popular is the budget to make the animated films was much lower and it allowed the artists more freedom then they normally would have making a typical cartoon…
