New initiatives or the expansion of existing ones will always have an affect on the bottom line and will help to improve sales. When Disney focuses on planning, part of their planning strategy is to focus on projected future sales and the assets and financing needed to support those sales. “Disney strives to accomplish upcoming earnings growth to improve the company’s long-term competitive position. Strategic initiative can sometimes persuade upcoming returns; Disney assesses trends in financial metrics over time instead of looking only at short-term results” (Disney Strategic Initiative, 2011). “If our entertainment offerings and products do not achieve sufficient consumer acceptance, our revenue from advertising sales (which are based in part on ratings for the programs in which advertisements air) or subscription fees for broadcast and cable programming and online services, from theatrical film receipts or home video or electronic game sales, from theme park admissions, hotel room charges and merchandise, food and beverage sales, from sales of licensed consumer products or from sales of our other consumer products and services may decline and adversely affect the profitability of one or more of our businesses”…

Financial managers must understand the value of a dollar invested today in order to make decisions as to what capital ventures/projects the company should engage in to expand business operations, earn a profit and increase shareholder wealth. The idea that a dollar today is worth more than a dollar in the future is true, because a dollar wisely invested today can be used to generate future earnings. The money a business is willing to invest in new equipment or expansion opportunities must provide positive cash flows. It doesn’t matter whether these cash flows are earned through operational activities or cost cutting measures but that they add value to the company. Two approaches to making capital budgeting decisions use discounted cash flows. “One is the net present value method and the other is the internal rate of return…

There are grants toward research grants as well as program services grants. Taking money for foundation grants will allow for selected services to be provided that deal with SID’S. This of course will help as most grants that are foundational will steer toward services provided or additional research. Today since SID’S.org breaks down into chapters such as states, then the foundation itself gives grants to the each chapter yet these grants are for service provided or for additional research. Keep in mind that this is not a loan, the grant is conditional and the conditions must be met.…

UNICEF is a world-renowned organization that strives to give a voice to those who go unheard: the children of the world. UNICEF or the United Nations International Emergency Fund was originally created in 1946, following World War II, in an effort to provide assistance to the European children who faced starvation and disease. It was through these efforts that UNICEF began to present itself as one of the nations leading advocacy groups for children’s rights. Then, in 1953, UNICEF was given permanent status by the General Assembly. UNICEF made its mark by assisting the U.N. Commission on Human Rights in the creation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1959, which ensured a child’s right to shelter, education, healthcare, and protection. In 1965, UNICEF added to their ever-growing list of accolades with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965 for “the promotion of brotherhood among nations.” Following this, the organization began to devote its time to promoting proper medication and sanitation for children worldwide. These efforts included encouraging women to breastfeed their children, promoting a breast milk substitute, and helping children obtain proper vaccinations.…

After World War II, European children face food crisis and disease. UNICEF was created in December 1946 by the United Nations to provide food, clothing and health care to them. UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. They have the global authority to influence decision makers and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. That makes them unique among world organizations, and unique among those working with the young. In the aftermath of World War II.…

The first thought that comes to mind when thinking about Africa is often, what is going wrong there now, or it is a very dangerous place for foreigners to visit. This is a stereotype that has plagued Africa for the past hundred years and has aided to why Africa still is perceived today, especially with epidemics such as HIV/AIDs, Ebola, and refugees fleeing war torn countries. Africa is an enormous continent with over 1.26 billion people living on it spread out between 54 countries. With this in mind it is important to remember that particular crises affect only particular regions of Africa for example, northern Africa has lower HIV/AIDs rates than even the US and many other western countries, and is really a problem in southern Africa in countries…

    Pau Search Fund Manifesto

I raised a search fund, drawing down the initial capital in September 2009 after originally writing my PPM in April and May 2009, (the months before I graduated HBS). I had been seriously considering raising a fund since September 2008 and in fall 2008 did a field study with a former unsuccessful searcher. The intention of this document is not to replicate anything that is in the excellent Stanford GSB reports but rather to give a personal perspective on the process and my decision making. The rationale for writing it is that I found the search process an emotional one with highs and lows, which as a single searcher is a responsibility that is best described as lonely. I made numerous mistakes, which in hindsight were an integral part of the process but which at the time I would disproportionately agonize over.…

A man, a myth, a possible candidate for the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador? Who else could it be but Gary Paulsen? Angelina Jolie has stepped down from her post at UNICEF, a non-profit organization that fights for children’s rights and well being around the world, leaving it in desperate need of a Goodwill Ambassador to spread their message to the public. Despite the fact that many people believe that Eleanor Roosevelt should be the next Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, Gary Paulsen would be infinitely better suited for the position; Paulsen is courageous, empathetic, and caring.…
